We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join a dedicated SEMH Resource Base within a large secondary school in Bridgwater.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who understands that supporting young people is about much more than academic progress. You'll work with students who may face challenges with their social, emotional, and mental health, helping them to build confidence, develop positive relationships, manage their emotions, and re-engage with education.

The wider SEND team takes a personalised approach to supporting individual needs, with targeted provision designed to help pupils overcome barriers and reach their potential.
Your Role:
Working as part of the SEMH Resource Base team, you'll provide consistent and personalised support to students who may find the mainstream school environment challenging.
You'll help pupils develop the skills they need to manage the school day, access learning, and build greater independence. This may involve supporting students within the resource base, accompanying them into mainstream lessons where appropriate, and helping them successfully navigate transitions and challenging moments.
The role is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure and understands the importance of building trust, maintaining consistent boundaries, and celebrating small steps of progress.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs
- Helping young people regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies
- Supporting students to manage behaviour and make positive choices
- Encouraging engagement with learning and the wider school community
- Helping pupils transition between the resource base, lessons, and different activities
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students
- Supporting confidence, resilience, independence, and self-belief
- Working closely with teachers, SEND, pastoral, and safeguarding teams
- Maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive environment
We're Looking for Someone Who:
- Is patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient
- Can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour
- Understands the importance of positive relationships and clear boundaries
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behaviour, or emotional needs
- Is confident working as part of a wider team
- Has a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education
Experience in education, care, youth work, mentoring, mental health support, residential settings, or behaviour-focused roles would be highly beneficial.
