About the role

We are looking for a talented Communications Officer to join our UKCS Living Places business, supporting the East Sussex Highways contract. This is a key role responsible for delivering effective communications and stakeholder engagement across a wide range of road maintenance and improvement projects.

You will play a vital role in ensuring that communities, stakeholders and partners are kept informed, engaged and supported throughout project delivery. Acting as a central point of contact, you will help maintain a consistent and high-quality approach to communications, while shaping how we connect with the public and showcase our work.


What you'll be doing

  • Creating engaging and informative content across a variety of channels, including digital and social media platforms
  • Managing and monitoring social media activity, responding to enquiries and promoting services in a positive and professional way
  • Developing and delivering communication plans for planned and reactive highways works across the county
  • Translating complex technical information into clear, accessible content for a wide range of audiences
  • Producing high-quality written materials such as website content, newsletters, briefings, reports, presentations and public communications
  • Supporting and delivering stakeholder engagement activities, including building strong relationships and responding to queries
  • Planning and coordinating public and stakeholder consultation events, both in-person and virtual
  • Maintaining and updating online platforms to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is readily available
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to meet communication objectives and deadlines
  • Representing the business at meetings, events and forums when required
  • Supporting wider communications activities and contributing to overall service performance


Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience in communications, with the ability to create compelling content across multiple platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • A highly organised and proactive individual, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach and the ability to build effective relationships
  • Experience delivering communication campaigns and engaging with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to simplify complex or technical information for public audiences
  • Confident using IT systems, including content management systems and standard office applications
  • A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond to changing requirements
  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of highways maintenance standards or infrastructure-related environments
