Job summary

We are now looking to appoint an ACC Clinical Coder who will enjoy the challenge of working in a Specialist Cardiothoracic Coding team at Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) NHS Foundation Trust on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. You will be providing accurate clinical coding to National Standards and Clinical Coding rules and conventions. The ideal candidate will have good organisational skills, an eye for detail, accuracy & the ability to work as part of an established team. The coding team is based across our Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Huntingdon administrative offices, the post is hybrid, a mixture of office and home based. Initially the successful candidate will be expected to spend two/three days in the office during their onboarding period.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The main duties will involve;

• The provision of an efficient and high-quality clinical coding service as well as meeting Trust deadlines associated with clinical coding.
• Working as part of a team, contributing to the development of the team, and engaging with clinicians to promote Clinical Coding across the Trust.
• To engage in activity validation with clinicians, building a working relationship and to act as a point of contact for coding issues.
• The coding team at RPH offers excellent training support.
• Full time and part time applicants will be considered. We offer flexible working hours after an initial onboarding period.
• This is a FIXED TERM 1 YEAR POST to cover a secondment. It is an excellent opportunity to work in a specialist Cardio Thoracic Trust, for an experienced Clinical Coding looking to develop in a speciality Trust.
• Applications from non ACC candidates with significant experience, would be considered at Band 4.

Qualifications

Essential

Holds Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification/working towards or has equivalent experience attained E AF E

Practical coding experience

Expertise in Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology.

Experience

Essential

Proven and in-depth knowledge, experience and understanding of ICD10 & OPCS4 coding classifications and standards in the NHS UK environment.

Ability to work unsupervised and resolve queries from Trainee Clinical Coders.

Ability to work and concentrate in a busy and demanding environment.

Have excellent verbal communication skills, in person, by telephone and in writing (including emails), using tact, discretion and sensitivity e.g. dealing with staff / patient enquiries.

Be able to explain the complex coding rules to all disciplines of staff including medical and clinical.

Working with VDU's, standard keyboard skills for Inputting into computer more or less continuously

Indirect exposure to disturbing photographs and case notes about abuse and terminally ill patients

Frequent requirement for prolonged concentration

Ability to work under pressure to meet Financial and statistical deadlines

Input, store and provide data and information.

Gather, analyse, interpret and present extensive and / or complex data and information.

Ability to prioritise and manage the ongoing work of services and/or projects.

Understanding of data quality and implications for the Trust.

Experience of understanding and interpreting medical information eg case notes, clinical coding.

Knowledge of the importance of confidentiality, GDPR and Caldicott principles.

A committed, pro-active individual able to work on their own initiative and prioritise workloads.

Able to adapt to change.
