Church Operations Lead

Salary: £27,000 FTE, rising to £28,000–£29,000 following successful completion of the probationary period
Hours: Minimum 28 hours per week, up to full time at 37.5 hours
Location: Milton Baptist Church, Weston-super-Mare, with the possibility of some hours being worked remotely
Contract: Permanent

Milton Baptist Church is a diverse, lively and growing community of all ages, working together as a Family on a Mission to advance God’s Kingdom in Weston-super-Mare.

We are seeking an organised, proactive and encouraging Christian leader to provide cohesive and strategic operational leadership and coordination across church life.

This new role will combine leadership, strategic organisation and administration. The successful candidate will support the Pastor and Leadership Team, help coordinate church activities and communications, and lead and develop our growing team of volunteer operations staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, encouragement, support and oversight to the volunteer operations team
  • Help recruit, equip and develop volunteers for operational roles
  • Provide strategic and forward-thinking organisation of the church diary, facilities and resources
  • Liaise with ministry leaders and others to coordinate church events and communications
  • Support ministry teams to undertake their own administration
  • Monitor and respond to church emails
  • Create and distribute the weekly church newsletter
  • Update rolling notices and digital communications
  • Use ChurchSuite to input and update key information and generate reports
  • Fill operational gaps where required
  • Undertake other reasonable duties connected with the role

At 28 hours per week, the role is likely to function primarily as an Operations Manager. For the right candidate, the role may be offered full time and include additional areas of leadership or ministry, functioning more like an Operations Pastor.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • is a practising Christian and passionate about playing a central role in the operational ministry of the church
  • has experience of managing, leading or coordinating others
  • is approachable and has excellent communication skills
  • has a proactive and flexible approach
  • has strong administrative skills
  • demonstrates excellent organisation, planning, prioritisation and time-management
  • has strong attention to detail and can anticipate future operational needs
  • is confident using Microsoft Office and email
  • is competent, or able to learn quickly, in the use of social media, Canva, ChurchSuite and HallMaster
  • is willing to commit to the church’s vision, values, discipleship process, ethos statement and safeguarding policy
  • is willing to work as part of a team and receive support, encouragement and accountability from the Pastor and Leadership Team

There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practising born-again Christian.
