Bar Manager – Bearsden Golf Club

£30,000 per annum, with flexibility depending on experience

Full-time | 34–37 hours per week | Mixed shifts, including evenings, weekends and club functions

Founded in 1891, Bearsden Golf Club is a thriving, friendly and family-oriented members' club with a proud heritage and an exciting future. Situated in the heart of Bearsden, the club has over 700 members and offers a welcoming environment where golf, friendship and community go hand in hand.

Combining tradition with investment and ambition, the club boasts a brand-new nine-hole course layout and recently refurbished clubhouse, providing excellent facilities for golf, hospitality and social occasions. Our busy Members' Lounge is the social hub of the club, while our function suite hosts private celebrations, corporate gatherings and other events for up to 80 guests.

The club has a proud golfing tradition, having nurtured talented players including DP World Tour winner Ewen Ferguson, a member since his junior years. Alongside competitive and social golf for players of all ages and abilities, the club enjoys a vibrant social calendar featuring regular events and social functions.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and commercially aware Bar Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and ongoing development of our clubhouse bar operation. This is a genuine hands-on management opportunity, combining excellent hospitality and member service with team leadership, operational efficiency and commercial responsibility.

Reporting to the Managing Secretary, you will lead our full-time Bar Supervisor and team of part-time bar staff, creating a positive, motivated working environment where teamwork, staff morale and consistently high service standards are central to everything we do.

You'll work alongside the team as part of a rota incorporating daytime, evening and weekend shifts. Working closely with the Bar Supervisor, you'll ensure that appropriate management cover is in place for club functions and events.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas, develop our hospitality offering and help grow bar, function and social membership income.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, train and develop the bar team, fostering a positive working environment and consistently high standards of service
• Manage day-to-day bar operations, working alongside the team as part of the shift rota and leading by example
• Organise staff rotas, ensuring appropriate cover for daily operations, busy periods, weekends and club functions
• Take responsibility for cellar management, beer quality, line cleaning, purchasing, stock control and regular stocktakes
• Manage bar costs, pricing and gross profit margins, monitoring performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Maintain effective financial and operational controls, including EPOS reporting, cash handling and stock reconciliation
• Ensure compliance with licensing, health and safety, food hygiene and other relevant requirements
• Work closely with the Managing Secretary, catering team and other colleagues to deliver successful club events, social evenings and private functions
• Build positive relationships with members and guests, encouraging feedback and continually improving their experience
• Contribute ideas and initiatives to develop the bar offering, increase revenue and support the club's wider ambitions

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong hospitality experience with excellent people skills, sound commercial judgement and a genuine enthusiasm for delivering outstanding service.

Ideally, you will offer:

• A minimum of three years' relevant experience within a golf club, pub, bar, hotel or similar hospitality environment, including supervisory or team management responsibilities
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a team, maintaining strong staff morale and service standards
• Good practical experience of cellar management, beer line cleaning, ordering and stock control
• An understanding of budgets, costs, margins and the commercial aspects of running a successful bar
• Confidence using EPOS systems and everyday computer applications, including Word and Excel
• A sound understanding of licensing, health and safety and food hygiene requirements
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with a friendly, professional and approachable manner
• Flexibility to work a rota incorporating evenings, weekends and club events
• Previous experience within a golf or members' club, experience organising functions and events, and possession of a current Scottish Personal Licence would be advantageous, although not essential
• Above all, we are looking for someone with the right attitude, personality and leadership skills, who can become a valued part of the club community
