About the Role

We are looking for a confident, organised, and energetic Head Food Runner / Expo to join our restaurant team. You will play a key role in ensuring food leaves the kitchen correctly, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

As Head Food Runner / Expo, you will be the main link between the kitchen and front-of-house team, making sure dishes are checked, organised, and delivered to guests promptly. You will help maintain a smooth service, especially during busy periods, while keeping high standards of presentation, accuracy, and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the food running team during service.
  • Manage the pass/expo area and ensure food is leaving the kitchen efficiently.
  • Check every dish for presentation, accuracy, temperature, and correct accompaniments before it leaves the kitchen.
  • Handle and run all allergen orders with the highest level of care, ensuring every allergen dish is clearly identified, checked, and delivered in full compliance with the restaurant’s allergen procedure.
  • Ensure allergen orders are communicated clearly between the kitchen and front-of-house team and that the correct procedures are followed at every stage of service.
  • Personally ensure allergen dishes are correctly identified before leaving the pass and are delivered to the correct guest/table without compromising food safety.
  • Ensure dishes are sent to the correct tables and courses are coordinated effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with chefs, waiters, managers, and other team members.
  • Monitor the timing and flow of orders during busy services.
  • Assist with prioritising tickets and communicating any delays or issues to the relevant Managers.
  • Support the kitchen and front-of-house teams when required.
  • Keep the pass, service areas, and equipment clean, organised, and safe.
  • Train and support new food runners and help maintain consistent service standards.
  • Help resolve mistakes or missing items quickly and professionally.
  • Maintain a calm, positive, and organised approach during high-pressure services.
  • Follow all company, food safety, health and safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures at all times.

About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience as a food runner, expo, commis waiter, or in a similar restaurant role Minimum of 2 Years.
  • Ideally have experience leading or supervising a small team.
  • Be confident working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Have a strong eye for detail and presentation.
  • Be able to multitask and prioritise effectively during busy services.
  • Understand the importance of food quality, timing, and consistency.
  • Be reliable, punctual, professional, and well presented.
  • Work well as part of a team and be confident giving clear instructions when needed.
  • Have a positive attitude and a hands-on approach to service.

Pay: Up to £15.21 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 45.0 per week
