Full job description

We're looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Duty Manager to join the team at The Newsroom & Jackson The Tailor — a fast-paced, high-energy venue known for great food, creative cocktails, quality beers and a lively atmosphere.

The venue is split over two levels – The Newsroom on the ground floor and Jackson The Tailor on the lower floor. Together we host everything from live music and Fringe performances to whisky tastings, quiz nights and private events, making no two shifts the same.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Supervisor, Team Leader or Duty Manager looking to develop their management skills within a successful independent hospitality group.

The role

As Duty Manager, you'll be a key part of the management team, helping to ensure every shift runs smoothly while delivering excellent guest experiences.

You'll work closely with the General Manager and Deputy General Manager to support the team, maintain high standards and drive the success of the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading shifts and supporting the day-to-day operation of the venue
  • Delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable guest experiences
  • Supporting and motivating the team during busy service periods
  • Ensuring food, drink and service standards are consistently maintained
  • Assisting with staff training and development
  • Handling customer feedback and resolving issues professionally
  • Supporting stock management, cash handling and venue compliance procedures
  • Opening and closing the venue
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment

About you

We're looking for someone who thrives in a busy hospitality environment and enjoys leading by example.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience in a Supervisor, Team Leader, Duty Manager or Assistant Manager role
  • A passion for hospitality and great customer service
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team
  • Confidence making decisions and managing shifts independently
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A positive, energetic and hands-on approach
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and busy event periods
  • A desire to develop your career within hospitality management
