Copywriter for Barnardo's Brand & Marketing Team

CopywriterBrand & Marketing, Fundraising & Marketing
Location: Various across the UK with flexible/hybrid working options
Salary: Grade D
Hours: Full-time, permanent

Barnardo's exists to change childhoods and change lives. Too many children and young people are growing up with disadvantage or at risk of harm - missing out on a safer, happier childhood and the opportunities they deserve in adulthood.

We are looking for a talented and creative Copywriter to help us tell our stories and connect with our audiences.

This is a role for someone who can craft compelling, audience-led content across multiple channels. You will write for campaigns, marketing, fundraising and organisational communications - ensuring everything we produce is clear, accessible and aligned to Barnardo's tone of voice. From advertising and digital content to reports and partnership materials, your writing will support engagement and income generation.

Working closely with colleagues across Fundraising and Marketing and the wider organisation, you'll bring creativity and attention to detail to a wide range of briefs. Alongside creating new content, you'll edit and refine existing materials so they are accurate, inclusive and on brand, and support the continued development of how we express ourselves through words.

What you'll be doing as a Copywriter

  • Writing engaging, high-quality content across channels, including advertising, social media, email, web, print and fundraising campaigns
  • Crafting audience-led storytelling for supporters, service users, partners and internal teams
  • Editing and proofreading materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, inclusivity and consistency with our tone of voice
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and creative teams to deliver work that meets briefs and campaign objectives
  • Developing content for key organisational materials such as reports, presentations and partnership pitches
  • Championing accessible and inclusive communication, with strong EDI principles embedded throughout
  • Supporting the evolution of Barnardo's tone of voice and acting as a guardian of the brand
  • Using insight and testing to improve performance over time

This is a varied and dynamic role at the heart of how Barnardo's communicates, helping people understand our impact and take action to support children and young people.

You'll be someone who can manage multiple priorities, collaborate effectively with stakeholders and teams, and understand how strong writing drives engagement. You will have excellent writing and editing skills, experience across a range of formats, and a commitment to accessible and inclusive communication.

You'll also be comfortable working collaboratively across teams and able to attend in-person meetings in central London - typically once a month, with more regular attendance (around once a week) when needed.

Most of all, we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to changing childhoods and changing lives, and who brings creativity, care and attention to everything they do.

If you're ready to use your skills to create work that makes a real difference, we would love to hear from you.

When completing your application please refer to your skills knowledge and experience in relation to the Person Specification, Job Description and Additional Information document (if applicable). This should be done with an understanding of the context of the service described.

Please note due to the high volume of applications for some posts, this advert might close before the displayed closing date. We recommend that you apply for this role as soon as possible

Pay & Reward Framework

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
