Full job description

A squad of your own PLUS a full week of school-club coaching — up to ~13 hours per week from one club. This is not a cover role, and it is not a couple of hours a week.

Berkshire Bulldogs runs squads from U10 to U16 across Berkshire and Surrey, playing in the Surrey CVL and Junior Development League, plus before-school and after-school clubs at partner prep and primary schools, camps and community sessions. This season is our most ambitious yet: two competitive U16 teams, new school partnerships, and a 10-week autumn development programme starting mid-September.

The role: take ownership of a junior squad — plan the block, deliver evening training sessions, coach on match days, build relationships with players and parents; deliver our before-school clubs (7:45am starts) and after-school clubs at partner schools across Woking, Guildford, Windsor, Ascot, Camberley and Egham; launch and build our brand-new community session in Lightwater; contribute to camps, tournaments and holiday provision where available.

Pay: £25-£40 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, with session planning built into the rate and a separate match-day fee on top. At full hours that is £325-£520 per week in term time. Self-employed, starting week commencing 1 September 2026. If you can only do part of the timetable — evenings only, or afternoons only — apply anyway and tell us what works: we can shape the role around a strong coach and cover the rest.

Essential: Basketball England Level 2 (Community or Club Coach Award), OR Introduction to Coaching with a genuine commitment to completing Level 2 this season (we will support you through it, working under supervision until then). Enhanced DBS with children's barred list check — if yours is on the DBS Update Service, say so in your application, it means we can get you on court far faster. In-date Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate, or willingness to complete one immediately. The presence to hold a gym full of young people and the patience to actually teach them. Reliability — our families and partner schools plan their weeks around these sessions. A driving licence and own transport — sessions span multiple towns, so this one is non-negotiable for the full role.

Desirable: Level 3, experience coaching a competitive junior squad through a league season, experience delivering in schools (a big plus given the timetable), first aid qualification.

We would rather appoint a good coach who is still building their qualifications than a well-qualified coach the players do not respond to. If you are close but not exactly what is written above, apply anyway and tell us why.

How to apply: apply with a CV and include your qualifications and their dates, your DBS status (and whether it is on the Update Service), your availability from September (mornings, afternoons and evenings — be specific, part-timetable applications welcome), and confirmation that you drive. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to run a paid 45-minute trial session with our players at our summer camp at Garth Hill College, Bracknell, on 17-19 August.

Closing date: Friday 21 August 2026 — we review applications as they arrive and may appoint sooner, so apply early.

Berkshire Bulldogs is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory references. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Pay: £25.00-£40.00 per hour
