Job Description

Are you ready to take the next step in your retail career, leading from the front, supporting people and making things happen day to day?

Join us at Boots as an Assistant Manager in our busy Bath Southgate Centre store, where you’ll be part of a dynamic and well-established team known for delivering exceptional service and making a real difference to customers’ lives.

With excellent transport links, including nearby train and bus stations, as well as convenient parking options, this is an accessible and vibrant location to grow your career.

At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust—somewhere they feel welcome, supported and want to return to. Guided by our purpose, “With You. For Life.”, you’ll bring this to life every day, helping your team deliver care that truly matters in those key moments.

This store already benefits from a strong-performing, established team, and we’re looking for a confident, motivated leader who can build on that success. You’ll play a key role in maintaining high operational standards, driving performance and supporting the continued growth of the business.

You’ll lead and support your team day to day—setting clear expectations, coaching individuals and helping them grow—while taking ownership of how things run. From helping a customer find the right solution, to ensuring safe and compliant pharmacy services, to delivering strong results behind the scenes, you’ll be at the heart of it all.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance people, performance and operations. You’ll also be supported to complete pharmacy training as part of the role, enabling you to contribute more broadly to the store’s success.

Working on a part-time basis (22.5 hours per week), you’ll benefit from flexibility across working days, with a requirement to work at least two Sundays per month.

If you’re looking for a role where you can make a real impact every day while developing your leadership and pharmacy skills, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What you’ll be doing

As Assistant Manager, you’ll report into the Store Manager and get stuck in on the shop floor, coaching and supporting your team and role modelling how great care and strong performance go together.

You will:

  • Lead your team to deliver strong performance while providing great care to customers and patients
  • Support an already high-performing team to maintain and build on success
  • Create a positive, supportive environment where people feel confident and motivated
  • Coach, develop and line manage your team through regular conversations and feedback
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the store, including planning, scheduling and prioritising workload
  • Maintain high standards across the store, ensuring it is safe, compliant and easy to shop
  • Take ownership of stock availability, cost control and loss prevention
  • Use data and insight to identify opportunities and drive performance
  • Step up to lead the store in the absence of the Store Manager
  • Complete pharmacy training to support the wider needs of the business

What you’ll need to have (our must-haves)

  • Experience leading a team in a customer-facing environment
  • Proven ability to take ownership of performance and drive results
  • Strong coaching skills and the ability to inspire others
  • Excellent organisational skills, including rotas and workload planning
  • A good understanding of compliance, safety and operational standards
  • A collaborative and team-focused approach
  • Confidence using systems, reports and data
  • A passion for delivering outstanding customer care and commercial outcomes

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience line managing
  • Experience managing store operations such as stock, audits or loss prevention
  • Experience in pharmacy, healthcare or a regulated retail environment
  • An NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or willingness to work towards this)

Where your brilliance can take you

At Boots, your career can be as ambitious as you are. As an Assistant Manager, you’ll be perfectly placed to build your leadership capability and take your next step.

That could mean moving into a larger or more complex store and stepping into an Assistant Manager role with a specific focus, such as Operations, Beauty or Pharmacy — giving you the opportunity to deepen your expertise while continuing to grow your leadership impact and experience.

You could also progress into more senior leadership roles, such as becoming a Deputy General Manager in one of our flagship locations, or stepping into a Store Manager role to lead your own store.

There are also opportunities beyond stores. If you’re interested in moving into our Nottingham Support Office, there are a wide range of roles across areas such as Commercial, HR, Marketing, Buying, Strategy, Finance and Supply Chain.

Whatever path you choose, we’ll give you the tools, training and support to be brilliant with Boots — building a career you can be proud of.

Rewards designed for you
  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan
  • Generous employee discount across Boots and partner brands
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay, and a gift card for those expecting or adopting
  • Flexible benefits scheme; holiday buying, gym discounts, life assurance and more
  • 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support through TELUS Health, our Employee Assistance Programme
