Employment Type

Permanent — full-time and part-time positions available, including flexible/zero-hours contracts.

Hours

Variable shifts across days, evenings, weekends and late nights, in line with the rota.

Pay

Competitive hourly rate (National Living Wage or above, depending on experience), plus a share of tips.

About The Venue

The Fat Lounge is a darts-led sports and entertainment venue in the heart of Cambridge, combining interactive darts lanes, live sport on big screens, a full bar and a great food offering.

We are a fast-paced, high-energy venue, busiest during evenings, weekends and major sporting events. We pride ourselves on excellent drinks, friendly service and creating a brilliant atmosphere for every guest.

Role Summary

As a Bar Person, you will be one of the faces of the venue. You will serve drinks quickly and accurately, deliver excellent customer service, prepare cocktails to our standards and help keep the bar running smoothly throughout service.

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will help ensure every guest has a great experience and wants to return.

Key ResponsibilitiesService & Customer Experience

  • Greet and serve customers in a warm, friendly and professional manner.
  • Take orders and serve draught beer, wine, spirits, soft drinks and cocktails efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare cocktails and mixed drinks to venue recipes, measures and presentation standards.
  • Recommend and upsell drinks, promotions and food where appropriate.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints calmly, escalating issues to management when necessary.
  • Support guests using the darts lanes and watching live sport to help create a great atmosphere.

Cash Handling & Accuracy

  • Operate the EPOS till accurately, taking cash and card payments and giving correct change.
  • Charge correct prices and measures in line with venue standards.
  • Follow cash handling, float and end-of-shift cashing-up procedures.

Bar Standards & Stock Control

  • Keep the bar, back bar, fridges and service areas clean, tidy and fully stocked at all times.
  • Restock drinks, glassware, garnishes and consumables before, during and after service.
  • Change kegs and gas, clean lines and maintain draught equipment following training procedures.
  • Assist with deliveries, stock rotation (FIFO) and reporting low or out-of-date stock.
  • Collect glasses, clear tables and help maintain cleanliness throughout the venue.

Compliance & Responsibility

  • Serve alcohol responsibly and lawfully, following Challenge 25 procedures and refusing service where required.
  • Comply with premises licence conditions, licensing laws and company policies at all times.
  • Follow all health & safety, food hygiene and allergen procedures.
  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment and report any concerns to the Duty Manager.

  • Reliable, punctual and flexible with availability for evenings, weekends and late nights.
  • Ability to stay calm, organised and accurate during busy periods.
  • Strong team player who is willing to support colleagues.
  • Good basic numeracy skills for cash handling and till operation.
  • Must be aged 18 or over (legal requirement for alcohol sales).

Desirable

  • Previous bar, hospitality or customer service experience.
  • Cocktail-making experience or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of beers, wines and spirits.
  • Experience using EPOS/till systems.
  • Interest in sport and/or darts and the atmosphere of a busy entertainment venue.
