Full job description
An opportunity at the forefront of London's wedding scene
Meridian Grand is a purpose-built luxury wedding and events venue in North London. We deliver more than 300 events a year across the full breadth of London's cultural wedding market: Pakistani, Nigerian, Somali, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi, Jewish, Turkish, Afghani and mixed-heritage celebrations, each with its own traditions, timings and expectations.
Some of the grandest and most complex weddings in the country happen in this building. For anyone building a career in events, there are very few places in London where you would learn more, or learn it faster, and our reputation goes ahead of us in this industry.
We offer it all ourselves. Venue, catering, décor by Midnight Garden and event management sit under one roof, so a client can arrange their whole wedding with one team. We also host dry hires, and every event brings in outside suppliers of one kind or another, so a significant part of this job is liaising with external providers and organising them to the Meridian Grand standard.
Every event has its own Event Coordinator
Many venues sell a room and open the doors on the day. Every event at Meridian Grand has a named Event Coordinator attached to it from the moment the booking is confirmed, and that includes dry hires. Our reputation rests on delivering the best weddings in London, and that only happens when one person owns each event from start to finish.
The role in one sentence
You take a signed contract and turn it into the event a family talk about for the rest of their lives, standing beside them as it unfolds on the day.
What the job actually looks like
The handover. A booking is confirmed and assigned to you. You introduce yourself to the client and open the line of communication that will run for the next six, twelve, sometimes eighteen months. From that point you are their person at Meridian Grand.
The planning. You meet them, you listen, you guide, and you translate their vision into operational documents other people can execute: the running order, the floor plan, the kitchen function sheet, the décor brief. You work with our head chef, with Midnight Garden and with our operations team to make sure what has been promised can actually be delivered, and you brief and coordinate whatever outside suppliers the client is bringing in.
The pressure points. Numbers change. Families disagree. A supplier lets someone down. Someone's mother has a very clear view about the stage. You absorb all of that, you solve it, and the client sees a calm professional who has it under control.
The day. You are there for it. You walk the room before anyone else, you sign off the décor before the client ever sees it, you brief the team, and then you stay at the client's shoulder through the event, holding the timings, giving the kitchen its notice before every course, and solving problems before the family knows there was one.
Afterwards. You close the event out properly before you move on to the next one, and you gather structured feedback from the client. We use that feedback to keep improving the business and what we offer.
You will carry a portfolio of events at different stages at the same time. Holding all of them in a system you trust rather than in your head is the job.
What we need from you
We have three requirements that decide whether someone succeeds in this role.
1. You are exceptional with people
Every day at Meridian Grand is the most important day of somebody's life, and clients bring all of that to you. Many are excited, full of ideas and a real pleasure to work with. Some are anxious, and a few are demanding, particularly once the date gets close. You need to build a proper relationship across all of them.
We are looking for someone who is warm without being a pushover, who can advise a client rather than simply agree with them, and who can say that something will not work in a way that leaves the client more confident in you. On the day itself, you are the face of Meridian Grand to several hundred guests and one very invested family.
If you would rather work behind a screen, this will not suit you.
2. You are extremely organised
We mean systematically organised, with a track record you can point to.
You will run several weddings in parallel, each at a different stage, each with its own deadlines and its own set of people waiting on you. Getting documentation to the right people at the right time is how a wedding actually happens.
We measure document completion against the deadline and we take it seriously. If you tend to leave things late and rely on pulling it together at the end, this role will not suit you.
3. You can work when the work is
Weddings often happen in the evening and at the weekend and you will be there for your clients. This is not a Monday to Friday, nine to five job. Weekend and evening availability does need to work for you, because it comes round every week.
What delivering London's most prestigious weddings is really like
A lot of this work is brilliantly rewarding. You deliver events that people remember for the rest of their lives, you watch families have one of the happiest days they will ever have, and you know you built it. You will receive feedback that brings a tear to the eye and know that your clients will remember you for the rest of their lives. That is why people stay in this industry, and it is the best part of the job by a distance.
The rest of it is detail. Spreadsheets, phone calls, chasing suppliers, checking the same things twice. Great weddings do not just happen on the day; they are the product of meticulous planning and care over the details. At Meridian Grand, we pride ourselves on doing that better than anyone.
What we care about
No formal qualification is needed. We are not interested in where you went to school or whether you went to university.
What we care about is attitude. We want someone who takes ownership, who wants to be properly good at this, and who wants to grow. We would rather bring in someone with the right attitude and train them than hire someone experienced who has stopped wanting to learn.
We do want to know whether you have run something real from start to finish with people depending on you. That might be weddings, hospitality, hotels, conferences or catering, or something with no connection to events at all. If you have experience of the cultural celebrations we host, tell us, because it counts for a lot here.
We are open to a range of experience. If you are already an experienced coordinator, we want to hear from you. If you are earlier in your career and you have the right attitude, we want to hear from you too.
What you get
- Salary of £29,000 to £34,000 depending on experience
- Free lunch on most working days
- Pension scheme
- An extra day of annual leave after two years' service
- Private healthcare after two years' service
- Employee assistance programme
- Weekly yoga sessions on site, run by an external teacher
- Structured induction and training
- Your own events. You own them from the booking to the close, rather than assisting on somebody else's.
- A venue at the top of its market, and a team that holds a high standard
Applying
Use the Apply button on this page. You will be asked for your CV and a few short questions, and we read every application. We ask everyone the same questions so that we are comparing candidates fairly. Please apply here rather than emailing a CV, so that every application sits in one place.
