Job description

This role is based in the United Kingdom and as such all normal working days must be carried out in the United Kingdom.

Before you apply

It’s important we assess you for the programme that really suits your talents. Please only make one application, and note that if you make more than one we’ll only accept your first.

Why Engineering?

At NatWest, our Software and Data Engineers are at the heart of innovation, collaborating across the bank to create cutting-edge solutions that make a real difference for millions of customers. Whether it's enhancing mobile apps, leveraging AI for personalised experiences, or simplifying core systems, our engineers are shaping the future of banking.

You’ll join our Digital X or Customer Operations focused on driving:

  • Disciplined growth through digital transformation and customer-centric design
  • Simplification and agility by modernising platforms and streamlining operations
  • Security and resilience with cutting-edge fraud prevention and risk management

Together, we’re building a smarter, safer, and more personalised banking experience powered by data, AI, and bold ideas.

Your graduate journey

This programme is designed to give you everything you need to thrive. You’ll be immersed in real projects, supported by experts, and empowered to grow your skills in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.

Over the course of this 12 month programme, you can expect to:

  • Kick off with a three month immersive bootcamp featuring a bespoke self-led learning pathway, live projects, hackathons, and expert-led sessions
  • Spend nine months working on live projects that shape the future of banking and gain deep, meaningful experience in your assigned team
  • Gain full exposure to the engineering development lifecycle, from coding and testing to deployment, including the use of modern AI-assisted engineering tools and approaches
  • Acquire hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and contemporary engineering practices
  • Have opportunities to earn industry-recognised certifications
  • Receive support from a dedicated line manager, graduate buddy, and mentor
  • Participate in Employee-Led Networks, Graduate Councils, and Working Parties
  • Develop experience working with emerging AI technologies, learning how to collaborate effectively with AI tools while applying human judgement and critical thinking

You'll have the chance to collaborate with colleagues in India, and upon successful completion of the 12-month programme and required assessments, you'll be supported into a permanent Engineering role, ready to make your mark in a purpose-led organisation that’s committed to doing the right thing.

How you’ll benefit

We’ll reward you with a starting salary of £52,000. And on top of your salary, you’ll have access to our flexible benefits package.

You can also expect to:

  • Learn through the NatWest Group Technology Academy
  • Gain exposure to global engineering teams
  • Grow your network, build confidence, and elevate your professional presence
  • Learn from industry experts and apply your knowledge from day one
  • Strengthen your analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Build your data literacy and confidence working with technology
  • Develop your ability to interpret information and communicate insights clearly
  • Learn how to make informed decisions in complex and evolving situations
  • Grow your curiosity and ability to explore new ideas and approaches
  • Develop resilience, confidence and a strong sense of ownership
  • Experience working in a purpose-driven organisation tackling real-world challenges

Entry requirements

To join our Engineering graduate programme, you’ll need:

  • To have, or be on course to achieving a 2:1 in a STEM subject
  • Clear communication skills, and the ability to break down complex problems and explain your ideas
  • A curious, logical mindset with a passion for solving problems and exploring new technologies, including AI
  • Confidence working with data, statistics, and experimentation and evidence-based decision making
  • A flexible attitude, comfortable with change and ambiguity and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
  • A drive to learn, grow, and make a real impact
