Billing Manager

The Forbury Clinic

Location: Reading, Berkshire

Reports to: Finance Manager

Team: Line management of the billing/finance assistants

About the role

This is a hands-on, “player-coach” role, and an opportunity to grow with the organisation.

We are centralising our billing function in Reading as we expand into new clinics. In the first year or two, you will be close to the detail: learning how healthcare billing works, billing alongside the team, owning credit control, and turning how we bill today into clear, repeatable processes we can roll out across new sites. As the team and the number of clinics grow, the role grows with it — moving steadily from hands-on billing towards leading and developing a larger team.

Private healthcare billing experience isn’t essential — you’ll learn the technical side here from experienced colleagues and our internal documentation. We are looking for someone with solid billing experience, the appetite and aptitude to lead people, and the instinct to improve and systematise how things are done.

If you want to settle into a purely hands-off management job from day one, this isn’t it. If you want to learn an industry, build something scalable, and grow into a broader leadership role as we expand, it is.

What you’ll do

Billing delivery (hands-on, especially years 1–2)

  • Bill accurately and on time for insured and self-pay patients, working alongside the team.
  • Own credit control across the Reading clinics.
  • Learn the technicalities of insurer billing and tariff structures, supported by experienced colleagues and our finance documentation.

Process and systems

  • Turn how we bill today into documented, standardised processes that can be replicated across new sites.
  • Develop and improve our use of the patient management system (Semble) to make billing more efficient.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements.

Leading the team

  • Line manage the finance assistants — inductions, regular 1-2-1s, objectives, development and performance.
  • Build a positive, collaborative culture in the Reading office, modelling our values day to day.
  • As the team grows, take on a fuller management role with less direct billing.

Supporting growth

  • Help set up and standardise billing in new clinics as we expand.
  • Work with the Finance Manager, Clinic Manager and Lead Nurse so clinical activity is captured and billed correctly.
  • Liaise with insurers on tariffs over time (with support while you learn).

Other

  • Handle billing queries and escalations professionally.
  • Maintain strict patient and commercial confidentiality, in line with data protection and company policy.
  • Contribute to financial reporting and to the wider management team’s thinking on efficiency and growth.

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Solid billing experience (sector is not important).
  • Experience of, or genuine appetite and aptitude for, managing or leading people.
  • The maturity and emotional intelligence to lead an experienced team while learning the work from them.
  • A process-improvement mindset — you naturally want to document, streamline and standardise.
  • Strong Excel and confident use of MS Office and web-based systems.
  • Accurate, organised and calm under pressure.
  • Proactive and open to change.

Desirable:

  • Experience of billing in the private healthcare sector.
  • Understanding of private medical insurance and self-pay billing.
  • Experience with Semble.

Our purpose, values and vision

Purpose: To serve our communities, being there for people in their time of need.

Values:

  • Teamwork — we support one another and work together with trust and respect.
  • Excellence — we strive for the highest standards every day.
  • Caring — we lead with empathy, kindness and compassion.
  • Innovation — we stay open to better ways of working.

Vision: To be the UK’s leading consultant-led clinic group — where exceptional care, innovation and teamwork create lasting impact in every community

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • On-site parking
  • Private medical insurance
  • Sick pay

Experience:

  • Billing: 2 years (required)

Work Location: In person
