Full job description

About BIOVIT

BIOVIT is the natural vitamin and mineral ingredients company on a mission to improve the health of people and the planet through the use of natural vitamins and minerals. Our ingredients are all derived from organically grown plants, fungi, and algae, and we work with brands of all sizes to bring natural nutrition into their products.

Backed by UK Government support and working alongside world-class technical partners (including RSSL, Campden BRI, and Eurofins), we are building the evidence base for natural nutrition while delivering real commercial impact for our customers.

The Role

As Food Technician you will be a key member of the BIOVIT team, taking ownership of quality, compliance, and the technical integrity of everything we bring to market. This is a hands-on, detail-focused role covering raw material and finished product quality, regulatory compliance (including novel foods), and management of BIOVIT's organic certification.

It is a role for a conscientious, well-organised person who enjoys getting into the technical detail and thrives in a fast-paced, varied start-up where no two days are the same. BIOVIT are looking for someone keen to put their stamp on a role and secure their place as a key member of a small but growing team within a fast-paced start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities

Quality & Compliance

  • Own and maintain BIOVIT's food safety and quality systems, including HACCP plans and risk assessments, and securing BIOVIT ‘AA BRC’ status as an Agent & Broker.
  • Run internal audits, manage non-conformances and corrective actions (CAPA), and support preparation for third-party and customer audits.
  • Create, own and maintain the BIOVIT quality manual and all associated documents, keeping them current and audit-ready.
  • Maintain BIOVIT's wider certifications and declarations – Vegan, Gluten-Free, Halal, Kosher and FDA registration – and the supporting document library.
  • Support supplier and quality onboarding for new customers, responding to inbound due-diligence and quality queries.

Raw Materials & Suppliers

  • Manage BIOVIT's raw material (RM) stock, including stock checks, forecasting stock changes, and planning RM orders.
  • Manage the end-to-end ordering process for RMs – communication with suppliers and import agencies, and all associated documentation.
  • Vet, approve and monitor BIOVIT's ingredient suppliers – supplier questionnaires, certification checks, risk assessment, approval and ongoing review.
  • Implement and own BIOVIT's quality control procedures for raw materials, ensuring every ingredient is safe and compliant – covering contaminants and heavy metals, microbiology, allergens, and pesticide residues.
  • Manage the ingredient testing programme with accredited laboratories (e.g. Eurofins), including assay testing to verify declared vitamin and mineral levels.

Finished Products

  • Coordinate finished product ordering at Plant-Ex (co-manufacturing site).
  • Manage all finished product documentation – specifications, CoAs, MSDS, and TDS – ensuring nutritional integrity and full compliance with supplier and traceability standards.

Regulatory

  • Lead BIOVIT's regulatory compliance work, including novel food status assessments and classifications.
  • Act as BIOVIT's internal point of reference on nutrition labelling and health and nutrient claims, working with external technical partners (e.g. RSSL) where specialist input is needed.
  • Keep BIOVIT's regulatory documentation and evidence base up to date as ingredients and product lines evolve.

Organic Certification

  • Lead and manage BIOVIT's organic certification processes (Soil Association / OFF, GB-ORG-05), covering both incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products.
  • Maintain and manage key documentation for importing and exporting organic products via the TRACES NT portal, including raising and managing Certificates of Inspection (COIs).

Requirements

  • Qualification in food science, food technology, or a closely related field (degree, HND, or equivalent experience).
  • Working knowledge of BRCGS (or an equivalent GFSI standard) and HACCP.
  • Hands-on experience with quality control processes, supplier approval and stock management.
  • Experience in a food, nutrition, or ingredients company, ideally in a quality, technical, or regulatory role.
  • Well organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams at once.
  • Confident working with documentation, certification bodies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Energy and motivation to be part of, and contribute to, a growing business.
  • Resilience and flexibility when priorities shift.
  • Willingness to get stuck in across all tasks in a busy, dynamic start-up environment.

Ideal, but not essential

  • Experience administering organic certification and using the TRACES NT portal.
  • Experience with novel food regulatory submissions or assessments.
  • Background in supplements, premixes, or vitamins & minerals.

Why Join BIOVIT?

  • Be part of an ambitious, purpose-driven company at the forefront of natural nutrition.
  • Work directly with world-class technical partners on cutting-edge projects.
  • A varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.
  • The opportunity to grow with the business as we scale.
  • UK Government-backed, giving you confidence in our long-term trajectory.
  • Training & development support.
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + birthday off.
  • The potential for participation in the employee incentive option scheme.
  • Mostly remote working, with occasional requirement to attend in-person meetings and events in London and Bristol.

Pay: £35,000.00-£50,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Flexitime
  • Sick pay
  • Work from home

Work Location: Remote
