Are you an organised, patient-focused healthcare professional looking to join a supportive and forward-thinking General Practice team?

We are seeking a Clinical Assistant to support the delivery of high-quality patient care and help improve access to services across our busy practice.

This is a varied role combining patient support, care coordination, health monitoring, workflow management and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will work closely with GPs, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to support safe, efficient and effective patient care.

Role Purpose

The Clinical Assistant provides non-diagnostic clinical and administrative support to the multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on care coordination, patient engagement, health monitoring, observations, document management, referrals, recall activity and signposting patients to appropriate services.

The post operates within specific protocol-led pathways and supervision arrangements determined by the Practice.

The post holder will work closely with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, care coordinators and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Duties

• Support clinicians in the delivery of patient care.
• Undertake delegated clinical tasks within agreed competencies and protocols.
• Gather and document clinical information accurately.
• Assist with chronic disease monitoring and recall processes.
• Perform observations where appropriately trained and authorised.
• Support health promotion and preventative healthcare initiatives.
• Contribute to patient reviews and care planning activities.

Results and Workflow Management

• Review and process pathology and correspondence according to practice protocols.
• Identify patients requiring follow-up and ensure appropriate actions are completed.
• Support document management and coding activity.
• Escalate concerns to appropriate clinicians promptly.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.
• Assist with clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
• Support data collection and reporting requirements.
• Contribute to service development initiatives.
• Participate in practice meetings and training activities.

Patient Communication

• Communicate effectively with patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
• Provide information and support within agreed parameters.
• Signpost patients to appropriate services where necessary.
• Promote a positive patient experience at all times.

Governance and Safety

• Work within own competence and scope of practice.
• Comply with all practice policies, procedures and clinical governance requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and information governance standards.
• Report incidents, risks and concerns appropriately.
• Participate in mandatory training and continuing professional development.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in a health, biomedical, life sciences or related subject.
• Evidence of relevant clinical training and experience within a healthcare setting.
• Ongoing professional development relevant to the role.
• Experience working within a healthcare environment.
• Experience of patient-facing work.
• Experience supporting long-term condition management (Asthma, Diabetes, COPD, Hypertension).
• Experience of accurate clinical documentation.
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience of clinical coding

Desirable Experience

• Experience within General Practice.
• Experience with EMIS Web.
• Experience of pathology management.
• Experience of document workflow.
• Experience with supporting Insulin initiation.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong organisational abilities.
• Good attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and information governance.
• Knowledge of safeguarding principles.
• Good IT skills and confidence using healthcare systems.
