Job Purpose

The R&D Engineer is responsible for developing new component repair capabilities. The role involves researching and analysing Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) to extract critical technical information including tooling requirements, testing procedures, repair processes, materials, and related technical data.

This information is then compiled and submitted through the company’s internal capability application system to support the introduction of new repairs and maintenance capabilities. The role also supports production by providing technical guidance and assisting with the development of repair methods and tooling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and review Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) to identify repair capabilities suitable for development within the organisation.
• Extract and document technical information from manuals including:
• Required tooling
• Test equipment and procedures
• Repair processes and instructions
• Materials and consumables
• Prepare and complete capability application forms within the company system.
• Identify and record all relevant part numbers referenced within the CMM, ensuring they are included in capability submissions.
• Support the development and implementation of new repair processes and tooling solutions.
• Assist production teams by providing technical support and repair guidance where required.
• Work with the R&D Manager to prioritise and manage capability development projects.
• Ensure all capability additions comply with regulatory and company quality standards.
• Create tooling and test kits to support and improve production.

Experience Required

• Background in aerospace engineering or aircraft component maintenance.
• Practical engineering experience within an aerospace environment.
• Experience with Part-145 repairs is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with aircraft component maintenance manuals (CMMs) and technical publications preferred.
• Hands on experience with fabricating electronics. (able to make test boxes)

Qualifications

• Degree in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).

Location

• Saffron Walden: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
• Moving to Braintree, Essex late 2026 to early 2027 (must be happy to commute to both locations currently.)
