About the Role

Field Service Engineer

Location: North West
Role Type: Field-based
Reports to: Equipment Operations Manager

Panda is looking for a practical, customer-focused Field Service Engineer to support our recycling and waste handling equipment across the UK.

As a Field Service Engineer, you’ll be working on equipment such as compactors, balers and specialist waste machinery, helping keep it safe, reliable and available for our customers to use. The role is mainly field-based across Manchester, Bromborough and the North West, with most work expected to be within a reasonable travel radius from home, alongside some wider UK travel when needed.

This Field Service Engineer role would suit someone with strong mechanical, electrical or hydraulic fault-finding experience who enjoys working independently, solving problems and delivering a good service to customers on site.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to keep machines operating safely and efficiently
  • Inspecting, testing and diagnosing faults on recycling and waste handling equipment
  • Repairing or replacing defective parts using hand tools, power tools and test equipment
  • Reassembling and testing equipment following repair or maintenance work
  • Working on electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic components
  • Supporting equipment installations at customer sites, including three-phase connections where required
  • Assisting suppliers with the installation of new machinery
  • Completing service, inspection and repair documentation accurately
  • Providing photographic evidence and clear records to support completed work
  • Liaising with the Operations Manager and technical support teams to resolve engineering issues
  • Taking ownership of customer equipment issues and helping minimise downtime
  • Supporting customers with basic machine operator training
  • Helping customers understand safe operating procedures and technical requirements
  • Planning your daily workload to maximise customer service and reduce unnecessary travel
  • Working safely at all times and following customer site rules and safety requirements

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in field service, maintenance, repair or installation work
  • A background in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or service engineering
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • The ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical circuit diagrams
  • Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles
  • Confidence using electrical and hydraulic test equipment
  • An understanding of safety standards and safe working practices
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision
  • A practical, disciplined and organised approach to work
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers
  • Strong attention to detail when completing service records and reports

Experience working on waste handling equipment, compactors, balers or similar machinery would be ideal, but we’re also open to people from associated industries with transferable engineering skills.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent, in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of hydraulic circuits and related test equipment
  • Experience carrying out fault-finding, repair and maintenance in a service environment

Why Join Panda?

This is a great opportunity for a Field Service Engineer who wants a varied field-based role, working with specialist equipment and supporting customers across a growing recycling and waste management business.

You’ll have the chance to take ownership of your work, solve real engineering problems and play an important part in keeping essential equipment operating safely and effectively.
