Full job description
The Evelina Newborn Imaging Centre (ENIC) at St Thomas’ Hospital is seeking a motivated, compassionate, and highly skilled Neonatal Imaging Research Nurse to join our multidisciplinary clinical research team. This is a 12-month fixed-term position offering a rare opportunity to contribute to world-leading neonatal imaging studies designed to improve outcomes for some of the most vulnerable babies in our care.
Working within the state-of-the-art Imaging Clinical Research Facility and in close collaboration with neonatologists, radiographers, clinical researchers, and allied health professionals, you will play a key role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of advanced MRI studies involving children and newborn infants, including preterm and clinically complex babies.
The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills and experience working in a neonatal unit, along with an understanding of research governance and experience supporting clinical research. You will coordinate research participants throughout their imaging pathway, ensuring high standards of family-centred care, safety, and comfort. Responsibilities include screening and consenting families, preparing neonates and children for imaging, monitoring during scans, delivering clinical care in line with study protocols, and working closely with the wider research and clinical teams to ensure smooth study delivery.
You will support the day-to-day running of research studies, including data collection, documentation, regulatory compliance, and contributing to high-quality research outputs. The role also involves assisting with SOP development, ethics applications, study set-up, and ensuring adherence to research governance standards. This position suits an experienced neonatal nurse with strong assessment skills, an interest in research, and a commitment to improving neonatal and paediatric care through innovation. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, calm under pressure, and able to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
By joining the Evelina Newborn Imaging Centre, you will contribute to pioneering research that advances early brain and organ development and supports healthier outcomes for babies, children and families.
Guy’s & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.
We are among the UK’s busiest, most successful foundation trusts. We provide specialist care for patients including heart and lung, cancer and renal services as well as a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Lambeth and Southwark.
We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and – as part of King’s Health Partners – we are one of England’s eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We have one of the National Institute for Health Research’s biomedical research centres, established with King’s College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities.
We have around 23,700 staff, making us one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country and one of the biggest employers locally. We aim to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs.
Comprehensive information is provided on the role and requirements within the job description and person specification. An informal visit to the Evelina Newborn Imaging Centre (ENIC) prior to interview is strongly advised.
