Full job description
We are seeking to appoint a full-time Technical Specialist (Clinical Teaching) to support practical teaching across our clinical provision, including Dentistry and Optometry, as well as Professional, Simulation & Consultation Skills. The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) delivers world-leading practical laboratory, clinical and simulation-based teaching across a diverse range of healthcare and biomedical disciplines.
You will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and managing technical support for multiple clinical teaching facilities, ensuring teaching activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard.
- Ensuring specialist teaching spaces, equipment and resources are effectively managed, maintained and continually developed.
- Contributing to innovative teaching methods, including blended and digitally enhanced learning, while ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and University and clinical standards.
- Supporting strategic planning for teaching spaces, equipment, sustainability initiatives and service improvement across Schools and the wider Faculty.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of clinical teaching across the Faculty, working closely with the Senior Technical Specialist (Laboratory and Clinical Teaching).
About You
We are looking for an experienced technical professional with a strong background in line management of technical staff across different teams. You should demonstrate:
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant clinical or biological sciences experience, with previous experience supporting clinical, laboratory or simulation-based technical activities.
- Strong line management skills, including experience leading or developing staff and managing specialist facilities and equipment.
- Experience writing risk assessments and other safety documentation, alongside excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- A commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and collaborative working in a customer-focused setting.
This role would suit a motivated and forward-thinking individual who is passionate about delivering outstanding technical support and enabling excellence in practical teaching.
