About the placement

The Lyceum Clinic is a BABCP-accredited mental health practice in West London. We host a small number of research placements each year for students whose required dissertation or placement project sits in one of four areas. Each student takes one area and runs their own project in it, agreed with their academic supervisor. You bring the question; we provide a real clinical setting, a named placement lead, and support with ethics and data where your university approval allows.

The four research areas and who they suit

1. Sleep
Sleep and mood or anxiety in adults receiving psychological treatment.
Likely degrees: Psychology (psychobiology or biological psychology pathway), Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical Science, MSc Health Psychology, MSc Sleep Science.

2. Movement
Physical activity and mood in adults receiving psychological treatment.
Likely degrees: Sport and Exercise Science, MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity and Health.

3. Gut health
Diet, gut symptoms and mood in adults receiving psychological treatment.
Likely degrees: Nutrition, Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Biomedical Science, MSc Nutrition and Behaviour.

4. Mindset
Beliefs, self-efficacy and expectations in adults receiving psychological treatment.
Likely degrees: Psychology, MSc Health Psychology, MSc Clinical Mental Health Sciences, Behavioural Science.

If your degree is not listed but your required project fits an area, apply anyway and say why.

What you will do

• Design and carry out your own research project within one area
• Attend a fortnightly supervision call with our Clinical Director
• Present your findings to the clinical team at the end of the placement and provide a short written summary

What you will not do

• Deliver any clinical care, sit in on sessions, or access identifiable client records
• Carry out work for the business outside your academic project. If we ever ask for that, it is paid at the National Living Wage or above.

What we offer

• A named clinical placement lead and the Clinic Manager as your day-to-day contact
• Mostly remote working with a small number of in-person days in West London, travel reimbursed
• A reference at the end of the placement

Requirements

• Currently enrolled on a UK higher education course with a required placement or research project component
• University willing to issue a placement/learning agreement and name an academic supervisor
• A research question that fits one area
• Placement lasting under 12 months
• Right to study in the UK
• DBS check arranged by us if your project involves any time in consulting rooms
