Considering a PGCE or Career in Science Teaching?
Before committing to teacher training, gaining first-hand classroom experience is one of the most valuable steps you can take. This role offers the opportunity to develop your skills in a school environment, strengthen future PGCE applications, and gain valuable insight into the teaching profession.
As a Graduate Science Learning Mentor, you will work alongside experienced Science teachers, supporting students across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You'll help pupils build confidence, improve attainment, and develop a genuine interest in the sciences.
The Role
As a Graduate Science Learning Mentor, you will support students across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and potentially A-Level Science, delivering targeted academic support both inside and outside the classroom.
You will play a key role in helping pupils understand scientific concepts, improve their problem-solving skills, and prepare for examinations, becoming a valued member of the Science department from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted support across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Lead small-group and one-to-one intervention sessions
- Support students with scientific knowledge, practical applications, and exam preparation
- Help pupils develop analytical thinking, problem-solving, and investigative skills
- Reinforce key curriculum topics across KS3, GCSE, and A-Level Science
- Assist students preparing for assessments, GCSEs, and A-Level examinations
- Work closely with Science teachers to raise attainment and confidence
- Support classroom learning and encourage student engagement in STEM subjects
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biomedical Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a related STEM subject
- Strong subject knowledge across at least one science discipline
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for education and supporting young people
- An ambition to pursue a career in teaching or education
Desirable
- Previous tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or classroom-based experience
- Familiarity with the GCSE Science curriculum
- Experience working with young people in an educational setting
Why Apply?

Develop the practical skills and school-based experience that PGCE providers and teacher training programmes actively seek.
Earn While You Learn
Receive competitive pay of up to £560 per week, working term-time only.
