Full job description
We are seeking a technical specialist to support the development of new body measurement methods to assess the health of children. The post is part time: 22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE), and will be funded for three years by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) as part of a Future Leaders Fellowship held by Dr. Alice Bullas. Read more about this innovative project here.
You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of advanced measurement technologies and data collection processes, supporting high-quality research outputs, participant safety, and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will be confident working with children and families from diverse backgrounds, delivering research activities in an inclusive and participant-centred manner.
You will be highly organised and able to support complex research data collection activities, with experience of equipment setup and maintenance, research and health and safety documentation, data management, quality assurance, and troubleshooting of technical issues.
Knowledge and experience of a wide range of relevant human measurement and health data collection techniques would be an advantage; however, please note that training will be provided on the specific methods and equipment used within the research.
If this sounds like you then please read in full the job description and person specification and apply now.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment. You will be contractually enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
Find out more about the LGPS.
If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the LGPS and remain in the USS. Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.
If you are offered this post you will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working at Sheffield Hallam University but its relevance to the duties of the post will need to be assessed before the appointment is confirmed.
Sheffield Hallam welcomes applications from all candidates irrespective of age, pregnancy and maternity, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, or marital or civil partnership status.
We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements.
We are unable to employ anyone who does not have the legal right to work in the UK. If you need sponsorship to undertake this role, please use the UK government’s Visas and immigration pages to check your eligibility .

We recommend you download the job description and person specification when you apply, as this will not be available once the job has closed.
