Full job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Serology team within Blood Sciences at Charing Cross Hospital.
We are seeking a self motivated and suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist with strong post registration experience, along with an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Virology or equivalent demonstrable specialist knowledge and experience.
Although we are recruiting for a Band 6 Specialist BMS in Viral Serology, if a suitable Band 6 candidate is not appointed, the post may be offered under Annex U, with progression to Band 6 on successful completion of the relevant IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
As both biochemistry and serology assays are performed on same platforms, the successful candidate will be expected to rotate through biochemistry section upon completion of appropriate training and competency.
The laboratory is covered for 24 hours seven days a week and the successful candidate would be expected to participate in the late/weekend shifts and contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. Staff are also expected to work across our six hospital sites when required.
This post has specific requirement for evening shift cover up to 10pm, Monday to Friday and 8 pm on Saturday.
Collaborate effectively within the department to deliver a professional clinical laboratory service.
Perform core scientific and interpretive work in line with the qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist.
Participate in appropriate training courses and continuous professional development (CPD) programmes.
Supervise unqualified staff and deputise for section leaders as needed.
Provide specialist clinical technical services, including involvement in research and audit activities.
Delivery of comprehensive diagnostic services while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Benefits include career development, flexible working, staff wellbeing programmes, staff awards and recognition scheme. We also have available benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
For 2026, see below the start dates which you will be able to book once you have completed all your pre-employment checks.

Monday 3 August 2026
Monday 7 September 2026
