Pay Rate: £37.64 per hour

Sanctuary Personnel is currently recruiting for an experienced Band 7 Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Histopathology to join a highly regarded laboratory in Edinburgh. This is an excellent locum opportunity for an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with advanced histopathology experience who is looking to work within a supportive and professional laboratory environment.

This role is ideal for a skilled Biomedical Scientist who is confident working independently across a broad range of histopathology techniques while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient care.

The Role

As a Band 7 Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be responsible for delivering specialist histopathology services, ensuring specimens are processed accurately and efficiently while maintaining compliance with laboratory quality standards and best practice.

You will play an important role in supporting the wider laboratory team and contributing to the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality microtomy, including sectioning of core biopsy specimens.
  • Carry out specimen embedding, including core biopsies.
  • Complete clip-up of histopathology specimens accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform internal quality control (IQC) procedures for H&E and special stains.
  • Ensure all laboratory work meets quality assurance and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Adhere to health and safety, infection control, and laboratory policies.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support an efficient diagnostic service.

Candidate Requirements

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (essential).
  • Significant experience working within Histopathology at Band 7 level or equivalent.
  • Proven expertise in: Microtomy (including core biopsies), Embedding (including core biopsies), Internal Quality Control (H&E and special stains) and Specimen clip-up
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider laboratory team.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems and best practice.

Working Pattern

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • One-hour lunch break
  • Some flexibility with working hours may be available.
