We are looking to hire an AMO Theorist to design, model and characterise operations based on the interaction between ions and laser and microwave fields. What You’ll Accomplish

• Design methods for atom-light operations such as sub-Doppler cooling, state preparation and detection and quantum gates
• Contribute to the development of accurate physics models describing atom-light interactions
• Work with the hardware teams to implement methods on our devices
• Analyse experimental results and compare them against predictions from models

Requirements

The 3 Most Critical Attributes We’ll Use to Compare Candidates

• Experience in designing atom-light interaction protocols for quantum technologies
• Strong background in atomic physics research
• A proven track record of collaboration with experimental research groups and/or quantum hardware industry

Must-have Skills (in addition to the above):

• Proficient in writing scientific code e.g. using Python
• PhD in atomic physics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.

Nice-to-have Skills:

• Experience in quantum computing or quantum technologies
• Experience in modelling open quantum systems
