Full job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Blood Transfusion team as a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist at the York hospital site as part of the Scarborough, Hull, York Pathology Services (SHYPS) Network.

You must be a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Biomedical Scientist and hold an appropriate post graduate qualification that includes Blood Transfusion speciality (MSc or HSD). Experience of quality management, audit and leadership experience would be advantageous.

The Blood Transfusion Laboratory is equipped with Grifols Gel Column Technology, has two Erytra analysers and a DG Reader for manual card reading and utilises Haemonetics blood tracking.

This position is 15 hours per week and the successful candidate should be available to work Thursday and Fridays with possible pro rata participation in a partial shift which includes some evening and weekends.

The post holder will take delegated responsibility for day-to-day
operational matters of the Blood Transfusion section of the department, and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence. They will supervise, train and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants ensuring that proficiency and competence and personal and professional standards of that group are maintained.

The Post Holder will work closely and alongside senior BMS colleagues at the York site and to ensure harmonisation of procedures and policies and along with the Chief Biomedical Scientist that MHRA compliance and UKAS accreditation is maintained.
