Experienced Biomedical Scientist (Haematology & Biochemistry)
Location: Harley Street, London
Hours: Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week (Monday to Friday)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Competitive, aligned with NHS Agenda for Change Banding (depending on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our busy private diagnostic laboratory based in Harley Street, London. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented scientist to become part of a growing organisation committed to delivering high-quality laboratory services and exceptional patient care.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience across both Haematology and Clinical Biochemistry within a multidisciplinary laboratory environment. However, candidates with strong experience in a single discipline will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate the competency, adaptability, and capability to work across multiple laboratory functions.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine and specialist laboratory investigations in accordance with laboratory policies and standard operating procedures.
Analyse, validate, and report patient results accurately and efficiently.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
Participate in internal quality control and external quality assurance programmes.
Maintain compliance with UKAS, ISO 15189, HCPC, and all relevant regulatory standards.
Ensure accurate record keeping and use of laboratory information systems.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality management activities.
Assist with training and mentoring less experienced laboratory staff where appropriate.
Maintain high standards of health and safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
Essential Criteria
HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent recognised qualification.
Proven experience working within a UK diagnostic laboratory.
Strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems and accreditation standards.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in both Haematology and Clinical Biochemistry.
Previous experience working within a multidisciplinary laboratory.
IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Private healthcare laboratory experience.
