The University of Chester is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Laboratory Support Technician to join the Division of Medical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting laboratory teaching and research across a growing portfolio of programmes. Based at Exton Park Campus, you will help ensure our laboratories operate safely, efficiently and to the highest professional standards.

About the role

As a Laboratory Support Technician, you will work closely with academic and technical colleagues to support practical teaching, maintain specialist laboratory equipment, manage inventories and assist with the day-to-day operation of our laboratory facilities. You will contribute to an outstanding student experience by helping to deliver high-quality practical learning opportunities while supporting research activities across the Division.

Key responsibilities include:

Maintaining laboratory health and safety standards
Facilitating taught practical classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level
Performing routine maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment
Completing inventories and audits of consumables, chemicals and equipment
Provide administrative support, including procurement and laboratory bookings
Support student recruitment activities including Open Days and Outreach

About you

You will hold an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline and have practical experience of core laboratory techniques across areas such as biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, immunology, haematology and histopathology.

You will also demonstrate:

Knowledge of laboratory health and safety practices
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
Experience of working in a laboratory environment
Excellent communication skills and the ability to support learners with varying levels of experience
A proactive and collaborative approach to work
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Experience of laboratory research environments, technical support, training delivery, HTA compliance or health and safety qualifications would be advantageous.
