- Salary: £38,000 per annum
- Job Type: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

About DocTap
DocTap is a leading private GP service in London, offering rapid, on-site Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). By placing diagnostic equipment directly inside our clinics, we significantly reduce the time between a patient’s initial consultation, receiving their test results, and starting their treatment—often allowing all three to happen in a single visit.
The Role
We are seeking a versatile, highly motivated POCT Biomedical Scientist / Deputy Quality Manager to join our dynamic healthcare team. This unique role perfectly bridges the gap between hands-on clinical patient care, laboratory execution, and quality governance.
Working directly alongside our Quality Manager, you will balance your time between operating frontline—interacting directly with patients, taking bloods, and running rapid diagnostics—and stepping up into quality management, taking on core Quality Management System (QMS) duties aligned with ISO 15189:2022 standards across our 5 London clinics.
Key Responsibilities1. Frontline Clinical Operations and Diagnostic
- Patient Contact & Sample Collection: Greet patients, measure health screening metrics, and obtain clinical patient samples via phlebotomy (training will be provided).
- Sample Preparation: Utilise pre-analysis protocols to prepare patient samples for immediate use on POCT devices.
- Perform POCT Diagnostics: Conduct routine blood science analyses and other POCT sample types using both manual and automated tools. Validate, interpret, and report these results in real-time.
- Clinical Collaboration: Work closely with DocTap’s doctors and clinical directors to communicate results instantly, enabling rapid patient diagnosis and immediate treatment.
2. Quality Control & Troubleshooting
- IQC & EQA Execution: Run and maintain daily internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assessment (EQA) protocols across our clinics to guarantee instrument precision.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Act as the first line of defence when an analyser flags an error or data trends drift. Apply Westgard rules to analyse failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Lot-to-Lot Testing: Execute lot-to-lot acceptance testing for new reagents and consumables according to strict validation protocols.
3. Devolved Quality Manager Duties (Assisting the QM)
- QMS Maintenance: Assist the Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Management System, keeping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) updated with tight version control.
- Internal Auditing: Conduct routine internal audits according to the preset schedule, documenting non-conformances and driving them to closure.
- Method Verification: Support the QM in executing linearity, imprecision, and measurement uncertainty studies for any incoming or upgraded POCT devices.
- Inspection Readiness: Help compile and organise regulatory evidence to maintain total CQC and future UKAS audit readiness.
4. Equipment, Training & Compliance
- Equipment Upkeep: Track instrument calibration cycles, maintain device logs, and liaise with manufacturer engineers to resolve persistent technical issues.
- Staff Training: Lead and execute competency assessments and refresher training programmes.
- Safety Standards: Follow strict protocols to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH assessments and the proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
Candidate Profile: Qualifications & SkillsRequired
- Education: BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Registration: HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of post-registration experience in a clinical laboratory or dedicated POCT environment. A strong background in Haematology is desirable, as this role requires calibration experience and QC activities associated with haematology analysers.
- Clinical Confidence: Comfortable working in a patient-facing clinical environment, with the ability to draw blood and conduct physical health screenings professionally and empathetically.
- The "Problem-Solver" Mindset: A proven ability to look at a failing QC chart or an instrument error code, logically isolate the issue, and resolve it with minimal supervision.
Desirable
- Quality Exposure: Active experience working within an ISO 15189 accredited framework, with an excellent understanding of QMS requirements.
- Adaptability: Experience thriving in a fast-paced, agile clinical environment.
Why Join DocTap?
- Pioneering a New Healthcare Model: We are actively redefining primary care in the UK. By bringing diagnostics directly into the clinic, you will be at the forefront of a model that eliminates the days-long wait for traditional lab results. You will be helping to build a faster, more patient-focused future for healthcare.
- Career Acceleration: This role offers direct, hands-on mentorship from our Quality Manager. You will gain invaluable management, auditing, and ISO compliance experience while maintaining your frontline clinical and practical laboratory skills.
- Dynamic Work Environment: Because we operate across multiple clinics rather than a single central lab, your role will be active and varied. You will spend your time out in the clinics, engaging directly with patients and clinical staff across London.
- Benefits:
- Competitive salary of £38,000.
- 24 days annual leave + bank holidays.
- Company Pension Scheme.
- Dedicated support for ongoing CPD and professional development.
Pay: £38,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
