Full job description

Part-time Sommelier

Front of House - The Barbary

Contract: Permanent
Salary: up to £17.50/hr

We are seeking an experienced Sommelier to join our wine team on a part-time basis at The Barbary Notting Hill. Featuring a reimagining of the iconic Barbary horseshoe kitchen counter alongside a banquette dining room and cocktail bar, the 75-cover restaurant brings the original Barbary atmosphere to the Notting Hill neighbourhood.

While the menu finds its origins in the beloved elemental fire and spice cooking of The Barbary, this is an elevated dining experience which requires an involved and expert wine service to help create special moments for our guests.

The Position

We are hiring a part-time Sommelier to join our wine team at The Barbary Notting Hill between 25-30 hours a week. You will work alongside the Head of Wine to deliver an exceptional dining experience, advising our guests on their pairing choices, and training our FOH & Bar teams to develop their wine knowledge during briefings. You will get to work with 300 bins, an exciting blend of well-known artisans from around the world as well as newcomers from Central Europe and the New World.

The Candidate

Highly trained with a strong understanding of the classics.

Excellent understanding of the London wine scene and industry trends.

A confident and vibrant personality who thrives in the buzz of service.

Curious and eager to learn all there is to know about the cuisine of the North African Coast through to Southern Europe. You’ll be supported with solid, ongoing training to help you develop your knowledge of these new flavours.

Passionate about detailed hospitality, guest experience and dedicated to exceptionally high standards of service. Previous experience working the floor in a similar restaurant environment is essential and will set you up for success at The Barbary Notting Hill.

Well-versed in the world of wine with ideally a WSET Level 2. You'll be curious to learn more and be supported by our excellent team who will help you develop your skills and knowledge.

Our Benefits

Paid development courses – WSET, Watershed and more

Employee Referral Scheme – up to £2,000

Generous staff discount of up to 50% off across all our Studio Paskin venues

Enhanced parental leave package

Wagestream – put yourself in control of when you get paid

Partnership with Kelly’s Cause and automatic enrolment onto Hospitality Action’s Employee Assistance Programme – access to counselling, remote GP/physio services, legal advice and more

About us

Our success across all our venues – The Palomar, The Barbary, The Blue Posts, Evelyn’s Table* and The Mulwray – is underpinned by an open-minded, compassionate and enthusiastic belief in the power of heartfelt hospitality. We create places where we want to go. Places that combine elegance, professionalism, quality and style that have won us critical praise and multiple awards.

We want you to be a part of it.
