As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a proactive and organised Part-Time Accounts Assistant to support our finance function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a varied role and wants to become an integral part of a friendly and supportive team.

The Role

Reporting to the Accounts Manager, you will provide day-to-day accounting support across a small group of companies, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. This is a varied role covering all aspects of transactional finance, while also assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting the wider finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raise and process purchase orders.
  • Process supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
  • Match, code and post purchase invoices.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice queries.
  • Prepare supplier payment runs.
  • Process and allocate customer receipts.
  • Raise and issue customer sales invoices.
  • Support credit control activities where required.
  • Maintain accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable ledgers.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and post daily banking transactions.
  • Process employee expenses.
  • Assist with cash flow reporting.
  • Support month-end procedures including journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Assist with preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers and internal departments to resolve finance queries.
  • Support year-end audit preparation.
  • Ensure financial processes comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance department as required.

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, accurate and enjoys working with numbers. You will be confident managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or Bookkeeper role.
  • Experience of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero or similar ERP systems.
  • Good understanding of purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
  • Experience raising purchase orders and processing invoices.
  • Strong reconciliation skills.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships across the business.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable

  • AAT qualification (or studying towards AAT).
  • Payroll experience.
  • Previous experience within manufacturing, engineering or industrial sectors.
