Location: Head Office, Featherstone

Reporting To: Bookkeeper initially, then Finance Manager

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (37.5 hours per week)

Salary: Dependent on experience, up to £33,000 per annum (negotiable for the right candidate)

The Opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our clients team as a bookkeeper. Working alongside their current long-standing Bookkeeper, you will gain invaluable experience and knowledge with a view to taking over full responsibility for the bookkeeping and related financial administration upon their retirement in January next year. Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping & Financial Data Entry:
  • Accurate and timely entry of purchase invoices into Sage Accounts software, including checking for discrepancies and appropriate coding.
  • Posting purchase invoices to the relevant nominal accounts.
  • Entry of sales invoices and receipts into Sage Accounts software.
  • Account Reconciliation & Reporting:
  • Regular balancing of nominal accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Verification of Trial Balances.
  • Preparation of draft Profit & Loss accounts for review.
  • VAT Returns:
  • Preparation and submission of accurate and timely VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Payroll Administration:
  • Processing weekly/monthly wages using Moneysoft software.
  • Posting payroll journals to the relevant accounts in Sage.
  • Balancing Tax and National Insurance (NI) deductions.
  • Processing HMRC payments related to payroll accurately and on time.
  • Spreadsheet Management & Fixed Assets:
  • Maintaining accurate spreadsheets to record various financial and operational data, including payments, concrete usage, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating the Fixed Assets Register.
  • Operational Support:
  • Recording daily worker attendance, including start and finish times.
  • Maintaining comprehensive vehicle records, including MOT dates, insurance cover, service schedules, etc., and ensuring timely renewals.
  • Assisting with the annual materials stock take and valuation at year-end.
  • Creating and managing purchase order numbers for materials and plant.
  • Arranging and booking accommodation ("Digs") for staff as required.
  • Multi-Company Accounting:
  • Managing the bookkeeping and financial administration for three separate businesses within the group.
  • General Administrative Tasks:
  • Assisting with ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a bookkeeping role is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge and practical experience of Sage Accounts software is required.
  • Experience processing payroll, ideally using Moneysoft software, with a good understanding of payroll regulations.
  • Understanding of VAT regulations and experience in preparing and submitting VAT returns.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet software for data management and analysis.
  • A good understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting concepts (nominal accounts, trial balance, profit & loss).
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as being a team player.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • AAT qualification or part-qualification.
  • Experience working with multi-company accounts.
  • Experience in the Construction sector.
