Full job description

We are looking for hard-working and dedicated people to help keep Broxbourne’s streets safe by joining our team of Civil Enforcement Officers.

Keeping children safe near schools and ensuring emergency vehicles have unrestricted access are essential aspects of this role. Improving access to disabled bays and local facilities for less mobile residents is also a key priority.

The Civil Enforcement Officers ensure that drivers comply with these regulations whilst also providing guidance. They play a vital role in ensuring good traffic flow, maximising the availability of parking spaces and enhancing safety throughout the Borough.

Areas of responsibility include both on-street and off-street parking contraventions, as well as the smooth running of the Council’s pay and display car parks and on-street pay and display areas.

Excellent customer care skills are essential for this role. Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong people skills, including in challenging situations. They must be good team players and have basic computer skills. They must be prepared to work in all weather conditions on a flexible rota basis, which will include weekends and Bank Holidays.

A manual driving licence is required. This role also requires a standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.

We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER). The values and their underlying behaviours, demonstrate our commitment to providing excellent customer care, working in a joined up way, showing respect at all times and looking at innovation and forward thinking solutions. We pride ourselves on recruiting, developing and retaining talent who share this commitment.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Council’s benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
