Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people with disabilities?
Wokingham Borough Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Saturday Club Co-ordinator to lead our long-established Saturday Club, providing high-quality short breaks for children and young people with disabilities and valuable support to their families. The service has been supporting local families for around 30 years and is highly regarded by the children, young people and families who access it.
About the Role
This is a rewarding leadership role with responsibility for the operational management of the Saturday Club and registration with Ofsted. You will ensure the service remains child-centred, safe, inclusive and fully compliant with regulatory requirements while delivering positive experiences for children and young people.
Working closely with families, social care colleagues, health professionals and Addington School, you will coordinate provision, oversee admissions and allocations, support staff development and ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and care.
About the Service
Our Saturday Club offers enjoyable and meaningful short breaks for children and young people with disabilities up to the age of 18. Children attend once a month and access a range of indoor and outdoor activities tailored to their interests, choices and individual needs. Staff are trained to support a range of health, behavioural and communication needs, ensuring every child has a positive and enjoyable experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Saturday Club and act as the Ofsted Registered Manager.
- Ensure compliance with the Childcare Register, safeguarding requirements and relevant legislation.
- Supervise and support the Team Leader and a team of up to 15 sessional staff.
- Coordinate referrals, allocations and group planning for children and young people.
- Maintain and update policies, procedures and service documentation.
- Deliver medication competency training and ensure staff maintain required standards.
- Attend reviews and multi-agency meetings to support positive outcomes for children and families.
- Manage resources and budgets associated with the day-to-day operation of the club.
- Promote equality, inclusion and anti-oppressive practice throughout the service.
About You
Essential
- A recognised Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent.
- Experience of working effectively with children and young people with disabilities.
- Experience of managing, supervising or leading staff.
- Knowledge of the Childcare Register and Ofsted requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children, young people and their families.
- Ability to manage sensitive situations, competing demands and changing circumstances.
Desirable
- Understanding of legislation and issues affecting children and young people with disabilities.
- Experience of multi-agency working and partnership development.
- Experience supporting staff working with complex or high-risk situations.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to lead a highly valued and established service.
- Flexible part-time working arrangement.
- Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Employee wellbeing support.
- Learning and development opportunities.
- The chance to make a genuine difference to children with disabilities and their families.
Interested?
If you would like to make a real difference to children and young people with disabilities and lead a service that families truly value, we would love to hear from you.
