Job Title: Social Care Worker

Department: Support & Care

Salary Scale: £31,050 per annum (rising to £40,000 with service)

Responsible To: Team Leader

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Enniskillen, Nothern Ireland

Hours of Work: 39 hours per week

(Covering a 24 hour, 7 days per week Rotational Shift Roster)

About Trinity

You are joining Trinity Support & Care Services, an innovative organisation, providing quality assured, safe, and person-centred residential care and outreach support services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.


Key purpose of the job:

As a Social Care Worker, you will provide holistic Supports with day-to-day living, for individuals with a learning disability, autism or associated mental health needs.

You will deliver person-centred and empowering provisions of support, to meet the individual needs of our service users.

Main responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this role. The post holder may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs, changing business practices and/or to meet the needs/changing needs of the Service User.

Service User

  • Provide assistance to Service Users in all aspects of personal care.
  • Ensure the Human Rights of each Service User is exercised with the utmost degree of integrity and respect.
  • Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times for both Service Users, work colleagues and visitors to the unit/house.
  • Ensure each Service User is encouraged to live in accordance with their own wishes and preferences, and their individuality promoted as far as possible, through new opportunities, promotion of skills and innate abilities.
  • Ensure that each Service User receives the correct and relevant information to allow for informed decision making on their part at all levels.
  • Ensure each Service User is supported in the least restrictive of ways and positive risk taking is a given element to their decision-making abilities.
  • Support must also be in accordance with a low arousal and non-aversive manner.
  • Personal outcomes are achieved in keeping with each Service User, with clear goals, steps for achieving such and timeframes.
  • Ensure that supports are prioritised, and key commitments kept accordingly.
  • To work in line with evidence-based practices.
  • To ensure that each person is supported to live life to their fullest potential and remain (or become) socially valued members of their communities.
  • Ensure that you work in a positive manner and professionally contribute to your staff team and wider organisation.

Regulation

  • Always maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness of the residential setting and ensure that all procedures relating to safe food practices and infection control are carried out and documented.
  • Maintain folders, written reports, risk assessments and complete daily paperwork.
  • Follow medication administration procedures, ensuring medication is administered using the 10 rights of medication administration. Ensure documentation procedures are followed correctly and all actions are exercised in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that policy and procedure is applied and adhered to in respect of safeguarding of Service User's medications and finances.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, regulations (in particular HQIA Framework), Employee Handbook, and working practices of the organisation.
  • Participate in meetings and service user reviews; and feedback information to management and the wider MDT when appropriate to do so.
  • Attend and participate in all regulatory, mandatory and development training as assigned by the organisation and/or your line manager.
  • Effectively contribute to the team dynamic within your work location/other work locations to provide a high-quality, professional service at all times.


Person Specification - Social Care Worker

Essential Criteria / Desirable Criteria


Qualifications & Experience

Third Level Qualification or equivalent in Social Care or a related discipline

and/or

A minimum of 2 years' employment experience in a similar role (eg) Day Services; Domiciliary Care; Residential Care; Learning Disability; Autism

&

NISCC registration (or evidence of application submitted) for roles where NISCC registration is a statutory requirement.

Experience of supporting individuals who present with challenging behaviour.


Technical Competencies / Skills

Competent in the use of Microsoft Word & Outlook (for email; calendar management; organising meetings.

Working knowledge of Regulatory Frameworks and best practice as set out by (eg) Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA)

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience of creating/formulating data sheets

Working Knowledge of Intranet / SharePoint systems for information sharing & storage


Other

It is essential that applicants hold a full (i.e. not provisional) and current UK/ROI driving licence and access to a car and, business insurance for work purposes or * have access to a means of transport which would enable the applicant to carry out the duties of the post.
