Full job description

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced General Builder to work on a variety of construction, renovation, and repair projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sites. The role involves hands-on work such as bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, tiling, and more. You will work both independently and as part of a larger construction team, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest safety and quality standards. The position requires travel during the week, covering Northern England and Scotland, with 48 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construction and Renovation: Build, repair, or renovate structures using materials such as wood, concrete, brick, and stone.
  • Foundation Work: Lay foundations, including excavating and pouring concrete.
  • Framing and Carpentry: Install framing, roofing, doors, windows, and interior finishes.
  • Plastering and Tiling: Apply plaster to walls and ceilings, and lay tiles on floors, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Bricklaying and Blockwork: Construct walls, chimneys, and other structures using bricks and blocks.
  • Installation: Fit insulation, drywalls, flooring, and other materials necessary for the construction process.
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Perform repair work on existing structures, diagnosing issues and rebuilding as needed.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work complies with building regulations and safety standards.
  • Coordination: Work alongside architects, engineers, and other tradespeople to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Tools and Equipment: Operate hand and power tools such as saws, drills, and cement mixers.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in general construction or a similar trade.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and tools.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, working at heights, and long hours on-site.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and quickly resolve construction issues.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in following blueprints or technical drawings.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication with team members, contractors, and clients.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CSCS card) or vocational training in construction preferred.
  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of construction site safety practices, including PPE usage and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time role with the potential for long hours, including weekends and overtime during busy periods.
  • Work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions or indoors on construction sites.
  • May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or handling hazardous materials.
