Company Overview:
Covanburn Contracts is a leading provider of specialist construction services, renowned for our high-quality craftsmanship and expertise in stonework. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional projects for both commercial and residential clients, with a strong focus on traditional building techniques, heritage restoration, and modern stone applications.

We are currently seeking an experienced Stonemason to join our team. If you are passionate about working with natural stone and have a keen eye for detail, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stone Cutting & Shaping: Cut, shape, and carve stone to meet precise specifications for various construction projects, including walls and wall repairs, facades, archways, staircases, and decorative features.
  • Stone Installation: Lay and install stone in accordance with design plans, ensuring high-quality finishes, stability, and durability.
  • Heritage Restoration: Work on historic and listed building projects, restoring and preserving original stonework to maintain its historical integrity.
  • Surface Preparation: Prepare stone surfaces for proper installation by cleaning, smoothing, and ensuring the stone is level and ready for placement.
  • Tool Operation: Safely operate and maintain various stonemasonry tools and equipment, such as chisels, hammers, grinders, and mechanical stone-cutting machines.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all work is carried out to the highest standards of craftsmanship, meeting both client specifications and industry regulations.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with other trades and site teams, following instructions from supervisors and contributing to the overall success of the project.
  • Site Health and Safety: Adhere to all health and safety procedures on-site, ensuring the safety of yourself, fellow workers, and the general public.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Stonemason, ideally in both traditional and modern stonemasonry techniques.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and machinery, with a strong understanding of safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of different types of stone, including granite, limestone, sandstone, and marble, and the best practices for working with each.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Experience in heritage restoration and conservation is an advantage, though not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a passion for producing high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise effectively with team members and clients.
  • Ability to work independently – highly motivated and a self-starter - as well as part of a team, managing your workload effectively.
  • Physical fitness and stamina, as the role requires heavy lifting, manual dexterity, and working in various weather conditions.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with stone carving or architectural stonework.
  • Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) or equivalent.
  • Full UK driving license for traveling between sites (if applicable).
