Experienced Bricklayer / Builder – Multi-Skilled Tradesman

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and motivated Bricklayer / Builder to join our established construction and building maintenance company.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in the construction industry, excellent practical skills and the ability to deliver high-quality workmanship across a wide variety of projects.

Our work is primarily carried out within commercial, retail and industrial environments, including live manufacturing facilities. Previous experience in building maintenance would be a distinct advantage.

We are looking for an experienced tradesman who takes pride in their work, can use their own initiative, works well with others and, importantly, is willing and capable of turning their hand to different types of construction work whenever required.

Nature of the Role – Please Read Carefully

This is not a position involving bricklaying or traditional building work every day.

Our company undertakes a wide variety of construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects. The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to carry out different types of work, including:

• Bricklaying, blockwork and general building works.
• Paving, kerbing and associated groundworks.
• Concrete works, including preparation, placing and finishing.
• Drainage installations, alterations and repairs.
• Installation of external furniture, bollards and other site fixtures.
• General building repairs and maintenance.
• Refurbishment and alteration works.
• Various other construction and maintenance tasks as required.

Flexibility and a willingness to undertake different types of work are essential requirements of this position.

At McAdam Contracts Limited, we operate as a multi-skilled team. All our employees are willing to assist with different trades and undertake whatever work is necessary to complete a project.

We also make every effort to keep our employees working indoors during periods of wet or adverse weather when external works cannot reasonably be carried out.

During these periods, the successful candidate will be expected to work alongside our joiners and other tradesmen, assisting with internal construction, refurbishment and maintenance works.

Initial Three-Month Probationary Period

The successful candidate will be employed subject to an initial three-month probationary period.

During this period, we will assess their workmanship, reliability, attitude, flexibility, ability to follow instructions and suitability for working alongside our existing team.

Continued employment will depend on satisfactory performance and meeting the standards expected by the company.

Where these standards are not being met, employment may be terminated during the probationary period in accordance with the employment contract and applicable employment legislation.

Cleanliness and Site Standards

Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment is an essential requirement of this position.

We expect all employees to take pride not only in the quality of their workmanship but also in how they leave their work areas.

The successful candidate must:

• Work cleanly and tidily throughout the working day.
• Regularly remove debris and waste materials as work progresses.
• Keep tools, materials and equipment properly organised.
• Take particular care when working within occupied buildings and live manufacturing environments.
• Protect surrounding areas and minimise disruption to our clients.
• Thoroughly clean their work area before leaving site each evening.
• Ensure their work area is left clean, tidy and safe at the end of every working day.

We do not consider a job properly completed until the work area has been thoroughly cleaned and left in a safe and presentable condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out bricklaying, building, groundworks and general construction activities to a high standard.
• Undertake building maintenance, repairs and refurbishment works as required.
• Assist other tradesmen with different construction activities when necessary.
• Work on commercial, retail, industrial and occasional residential projects.
• Work efficiently within operational manufacturing facilities while minimising disruption.
• Follow drawings, specifications and instructions accurately.
• Use initiative to identify problems and determine practical solutions.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, cleanliness and site safety.
• Comply with all company health and safety procedures, risk assessments, method statements and site regulations.
• Communicate professionally with colleagues, clients and site management.
• Represent McAdam Contracts Limited in a professional and courteous manner.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a bricklayer, builder or experienced multi-skilled construction tradesman.
• Strong practical knowledge of construction methods, materials and building practices.
• Experience in general building works and associated groundworks.
• Willingness and ability to undertake a variety of construction and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative.
• High standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
• A strong commitment to cleanliness, organisation and health and safety.
• A positive, flexible and cooperative attitude.
• Full, clean UK driving licence – essential, with no exceptions.
• Valid CSR Card – essential.
• Willingness to undergo an AccessNI check appropriate to the role.

Desirable Qualifications

• IPAF certification.
• PASMA certification.
• Relevant plant operation qualifications.
• Additional trade qualifications.
• Health and safety training.
• Experience working within live manufacturing, commercial or industrial environments.
