As a full-time soldier, entry-level Bricklayer in the British Army, you'll:

  • Become a qualified bricklayer and concreter ready to work on infrastructure projects
  • Learn general construction, scaffolding, concreting, block laying and task planning
  • Learn to work under tough conditions across the world
  • Study for qualifications including a NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Bricklaying and Concreting (Military Engineering)

To qualify, you must:

  • Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months
  • Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject
  • Be able to pass a basic fitness test.

From the start of your training, you'll earn £27,282 a year which will go up as you progress in your career.

Step 1 is your initial military training. Step 2 will be 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering. Step 3 will be 33 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about brickwork, scaffolding and concreting.

You'll also receive 30 days' annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities.
