Job Introduction

Bricklaying Tutor

HMP & YOI Peterborough

Salary: £32,987.47–£38,801.01 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Share your trade. Build confidence. Help change lives.

Are you an experienced, qualified bricklayer who enjoys helping others learn? Put your skills to use in a role where you can make a lasting difference.

We’re looking for a motivated Bricklaying Tutor to join our Industries Department at HMP & YOI Peterborough. You’ll help learners develop practical trade skills, work towards recognised qualifications and build their confidence as they prepare for employment on release.

You’ll be part of our Education, Skills & Work team, delivering practical, engaging training and supporting learners with a range of abilities and needs. Alongside teaching bricklaying, you’ll encourage safe working habits, teamwork and pride in a job well done.

A teaching or assessor qualification and previous prison experience would be an advantage, but neither is essential. We’re looking for strong trade knowledge, clear communication and a real commitment to helping people progress.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver engaging practical and classroom-based bricklaying training.
  • Plan lessons and activities that develop learners’ skills and support them towards vocational qualifications.
  • Adapt your teaching to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of confidence.
  • Monitor attendance, progress and achievement, providing clear feedback and encouragement.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and positive learning environment, following prison security and health and safety procedures.
  • Work with colleagues to improve training and support each learner’s development.

Please see the attached job description for the full responsibilities and role requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience as a qualified bricklayer, with strong practical skills and industry knowledge.
  • The ability to explain techniques clearly and build positive working relationships.
  • Patience, enthusiasm and the confidence to motivate and engage learners.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to supporting people with different needs.
  • A commitment to education, rehabilitation and helping people achieve positive outcomes.
  • A teaching or assessor qualification and/or experience in a prison environment would be advantageous.

What we offer

  • £32,987.47–£38,801.01 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Free meals, where applicable.
  • Access to an on-site gym and subsidised gym membership.
  • BUPA healthcare scheme and life assurance.
  • Sodexo retirement plan.
  • Discounts at over 1,900 brands.
  • A confidential, 24/7 employee assistance programme, including emotional support and legal and financial advice.
  • Access to a wide range of additional Sodexo benefits.

Please see the attached benefits information for further details.
