Lecturer in Brickwork

Part-Time
Wednesday - Friday 08:30 - 17:00
SALARY: (£27,891 - £43,474) Pro rata
Location: St Albans

REPORTING TO: Curriculum Team Manager Carpentry and Joinery & Trowel Trades

SUMMARY OF POST

You will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons in construction - bricklaying.

Lecturer in Brickwork - Lesson Delivery & Student Engagement:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in bricklaying, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of the trade.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, ensuring students are actively engaged and can demonstrate their understanding.

Lecturer in Brickwork - Assessment & Feedback:

  • Regularly assess students' work in line with awarding body standards.
  • Provide constructive, written feedback that supports student development and helps them improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements.

Lecturer in Brickwork - Practical Demonstrations & Student Interaction:

  • Provide clear, hands-on demonstrations of bricklaying techniques to reinforce theoretical learning.
  • Lead Q&A sessions during practical work to ensure students fully understand the processes, materials, and safety practices involved.
  • Encourage a collaborative learning environment where students can share experiences and learn from each other.

Lecturer in Brickwork - Health & Safety Enforcement:

  • Enforce a strict three-point Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy to ensure students adhere to health and safety guidelines during practical lessons.
  • Monitor students’ compliance with safety regulations, maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Promote safe working practices at all times, ensuring students understand the importance of health and safety in the workplace.

PERSON SPECIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five years of industrial experience in brickwork, demonstrating a deep understanding of the trade.
  • Possess an NVQ Level 2 or higher qualification in brickwork, showcasing your expertise in the field.
  • A teaching qualification, such as a PGCE or Cert Ed, would be preferred, but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, enabling you to enhance the learning experience through the use of technology.
  • Up to date DBS
  • A minimum of two references
