Full job description

You can be the teacher who plans around the learner, not a scheme of work - online, reaching young people who can't easily get to one otherwise. None of the teaching-at-scale trade-off, less admin, just one person and the part of teaching you care about. We're recruiting experienced teachers, £25 - £30 per hour, for one-to-one online sessions with vulnerable children and young people across the UK; many can't access in-person provision, many have been out of school.

What you get

  • Work from home: Fully remote teaching. You work from home; your learners can be anywhere in the UK.
  • Flexible schedule: Part-time or full-time, around your other commitments. Daytime, evenings, term-time; you decide.
  • Tes CPD access: Unlimited use of the Tes professional development library, plus our own SEMH-focused CPD.
  • Mentoring programme: Regular check-ins and expert guidance throughout every placement.
  • Specialist team behind you: SENDCos, Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior special-school leaders, and experienced tutors backing every placement.
  • Tutor community events: Online drop-ins, knowledge-sharing sessions, and a genuine community of fellow teachers even though the work is remote.

How we work

We meet each young person where they are - safeguarding wrapped around the work, engagement before attainment, child-led and matched to your approach. We match, we don't dictate. Trauma-informed teaching that's transformative, not a gap filler - trusted by Local Authorities and schools.

Day to day

  • You'll teach one-to-one online in English, Maths, or Science to children and young people aged 5 to 18, referred by Local Authorities and schools.
  • Sessions are typically 1 to 2 hours via secure video platform; placements often run consistently with the same learner for months.
  • Most of your learners will have SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs; many have been out of school for some time.
  • You write per-session reports as part of the professional standard, supported by templates and your SEND Support Specialist.

You'll need

  • Experience: At least 2 years' teaching experience with SEMH, ADHD, ASC, MLD, SLD, or other SEND needs, and comfort teaching online.
  • Qualification: QTS or QTLS, or a directly equivalent specialist teaching qualification.
  • Subjects: Confidence teaching English, Maths, or Science at one or more Key Stages.
  • Tech setup: Reliable broadband, a working webcam, and a quiet space to teach from.
  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help arrange this), two professional references, and UK-based with right to work in the UK.

Pay

Paid monthly via an auto-generated invoice you approve in our tutor portal. Self-employed contract for services.

Applying

Apply in under 5 minutes via our mobile-optimised form. We interview on a rolling basis and respond to successful applicants within 2 weeks. Safer recruitment applies; we welcome tutors from every background and want our network to reflect the communities our learners come from. Our referral programme rewards tutors who recommend others who complete a first lesson.

You may have worked as

Mainstream classroom teacher, Online Teacher, Remote Teacher, SEND Teacher, SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), Special Needs Teacher, Intervention Teacher, Pastoral Lead, Behaviour Mentor, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), LSA, TA, Educational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist (SALT), Educational Psychologist (EP), or Inclusion Coordinator.

Not a permanent or salaried position; you are not an employee of Targeted Provision. Self-employed, freelance contract for services. Part-time or full-time by combining placements.
