Full job description

Field Service Engineer — Commercial Laundry (& Dishwashing) Equipment
London, Kent, Essex and South East UK | Full-time | £35,000–£42,000 basic + overtime (£6,000+/yr typical)

Are you someone who always works hard, wants to the do the right thing, gives your best, loves to solve problems and enjoys providing great customer service? You get a real buzz from stepping into a clients problems and leaving them up & running and happy again?

Then we would love to hear from you, because thats what we value and reward.

a&f (formerly Allsop & Francis) supplies, installs and services high-end commercial laundry and dishwashing equipment across the South of England. We chose the premium end of the market on purpose: our customers care about doing things properly, and so do we. That means we need engineers who take genuine pride in their work — people who notice the details, take responsibility without being chased, and do whatever the job actually needs rather than the bare minimum.

In return, here's what's different about working here:

  • We trust you to get on with it. We set high standards, then give you the freedom to meet them. No micromanagement — your results speak for themselves.
  • We treat people like people. Staff and customers alike, with dignity and respect. Our team regularly tells us how different we are to where they've worked before.
  • We give you what you need to do the job well. A high-quality van stocked with over £10,000 of spares, all tools and equipment, phone/PDA and laptop.
  • No weekends or bank holidays required. Your time off is yours.
  • We invest in you. If you want to keep learning and growing, we'll gladly provide the training to make it happen.

A great attitude matters to us as much as technical skill. If you have good integrity, take ownership, and quietly pride yourself on always doing the right thing — you'll fit right in. We don't cut corners and encourage our team to always do the right thing even when it costs us, as this builds trust in the long term.

The package:

  • £35,000–£42,000 basic, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Overtime on top — typically £6,000+ per year for those happy to put the hours in. The work is always there.
  • For the right person, we'll pay what you're worth.
  • No weekends or bank holidays
  • Fully equipped van, tools, phone/PDA and laptop provided
  • Full training and genuine room to grow

What we're looking for:

  • Commercial gas qualifications (Gas Safe) — ideally CCLNG1 and CLE1 for commercial laundry, though we'll happily train a qualified commercial gas engineer into the laundry side. Important to us, but the right attitude matters just as much.
  • Previous commercial laundry or dishwasher experience (a strong plus, but we'll train the right person from outside the industry)
  • The ability to problem-solve, learn quickly and find both the cause and the cure
  • Genuine attention to detail and care in how you work
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • A full, clean UK driving licence

If you've read this far and thought "this sounds like how it should be" — we'd love to hear from you.

Please include a short cover letter with your application telling us why you feel you'd be a good fit for the role and for a&f.
