Role Description

Harrison & Harrison wishes to appoint a pipemaker to join its busy metalshop.

Founded in 1861, Harrison & Harrison is one of the only UK organ-building firms still operating a full-time metalshop. Our metalshop is well-equipped, including casting facilities on a 14ft granite table. Our range of work encompasses new pipework, trunking and conveyance, as well as restoration and augmentation of existing material.

The appointee will be based at our workshop in Meadowfield, Durham, with work away on site as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the job.

Nature of work

The metalshop works closely with the Voicing Department to deliver the diverse metalwork of H&H.

In no particular order, the following duties are required:

· Making new pipework to a high standard, either to the H&H house style or a style contemporary with the project;

· Repairing old pipework to a high standard;

· Collaborative working with colleagues;

· Liaising with the Metalshop Foreman and Team Leaders and providing metalwork assistance to the shop floor or on site as required.

Person specification

We are looking for a person:

Essential

· With experience as a pipemaker;

· Capable of both study and practice, and the exploration and integration as appropriate of new ideas and techniques;

· Who can collaboratively assess our metalwork and work with colleagues to develop it, embracing change where it may improve quality or productivity;

· Committed to high quality and to raising the bar where appropriate;

· Appropriately flexible in working times to cope with the requirements of site working;

· With a collaborative approach, willing to work within the team ethic at H&H;

· Able to communicate well with colleagues.

Desirable

· Who has experience working with historic pipework;

· Who has a basic understanding of pipe-scaling theory;

· Who has experience of general organbuilding;

· Able and willing to drive when appropriate and holding a driving licence valid in the UK. License must have been held for a minimum of two years.
