Full job description

Do you take real pride in a flawless finish – and would you like your work to make a difference to the people who live with it every day?

Porthaven Care Homes is investing in a two-year refurbishment programme across its care homes, managed on Porthaven's behalf by Care Home Interiors. We're looking for four skilled Painters & Decorators to join the Porthaven project team. You'll transform lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms and corridors in high-quality nursing and dementia care homes, creating calm, beautiful spaces for residents, their families and the staff who care for them.

What you’ll be doing

· Preparing surfaces properly before decorating starts: filling holes and cracks, sanding, and making good walls, ceilings and woodwork

· Painting walls, ceilings and woodwork to a high, consistent finish

· Hanging wallpaper, including feature and patterned papers, with accurate pattern matching and clean joins

· Working from design plans and specifications, to programme, using materials we supply

· Letting the project team know each week what standard supplies and tools you need, with occasional collection on the way to site

· Keeping your work area safe, tidy and dust-controlled in homes that stay open and occupied throughout

· Keeping the project team updated with progress, photos and any issues, using our digital tools

Working in a care home

Our homes are people's homes. Many residents are living with dementia or have nursing needs, and they may be curious, chatty, confused or occasionally distressed. You'll need patience, kindness and a calm, respectful manner, and you'll follow each home's guidance on safety, security, infection control and residents' dignity. You'll also be a friendly, professional presence for families, visitors and home staff.

Experience working in occupied buildings (care homes, hospitals, schools, hotels) is a real advantage. If you haven't worked in a care setting before, don't let that put you off – the right attitude matters as much as experience.

About you

· At least 5 years' professional decorating experience, including wallpapering, with work you're proud to show us

· A clean, full UK driving licence

· Happy to travel and to stay away overnight when needed – accommodation and expenses are covered

· A great communicator: warm and respectful with residents, families and staff on site, and clear and reliable with the project team

· Self-motivated and organised – you work to a high standard without needing supervision

· Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for job updates and photos

· Smart and professional, wearing uniform, and PPE when required, with pride

· Open to occasional out-of-hours work

What we offer

· Competitive Salary, depending on experience

· Four-day week – Fridays off

· Paid accommodation and daily subsistence allowance when staying away

· Company van and fuel card for business use

· Uniform, and PPE when required, provided; tools provided.

· Ongoing training and development

· Refer a Friend bonus of up to £1,000

· Colleague discounts

· FlexEarn – access your wages early

· Employee Assistance Programme and GP Online

· Pension scheme

How to apply

Apply with your CV and, if you can, a few photos of recent decorating work (especially wallpapering). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview.

Successful candidates will be subject to providing references, a DBS check and right to work in the UK checks.

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
