Technical Estimator – Wade Building Services Ltd (Tipton, West Midlands)

Wade Building Services Ltd is a long‑established and successful supplier of structural and construction materials to major housebuilders and contractors across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint an experienced Technical Estimator to join our expanding Technical & Estimating team.

This role is ideal for someone with existing experience in construction estimating, builders’ merchant environments, or technical customer support — now looking to progress into a more specialised, technically focused position within a fast‑paced and growing department.

Role Overview

Working closely with our Senior Estimators and wider Technical Team, you will be responsible for managing technical enquiries from initial receipt through to quotation, approval and handover to purchasing and sales. You will play a key role in ensuring customers receive accurate, timely and professional technical support.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Product Responsibilities

  • Specifying and quoting steel lintels and associated structural products
  • Producing detailed take‑offs for products including steelwork, padstones, windposts and bespoke structural items
  • Issuing enquiries to multiple manufacturers to obtain competitive pricing
  • Collating all technical and commercial information into our scheduling database and issuing completed packs to clients
  • Issuing detailed drawings for bespoke products for sign‑off prior to manufacture

Customer & Supplier Interaction

  • Liaising with buyers, architects and engineers throughout the approval stage
  • Responding to technical queries and advising on product suitability
  • Requesting missing or critical information from customers where required
  • Chasing suppliers to ensure quotations and lead times are met

Internal Coordination

  • Working with the Purchasing Department to ensure orders are placed in line with your take‑off
  • Working with the Sales Department to ensure materials are delivered to site as per dates provided
  • Assisting site operatives with technical queries throughout the build

Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum Level 3 Construction qualification (or equivalent)
  • Ability to read and understand working drawings and associated technical documents
  • Previous experience dealing with multiple suppliers to obtain best pricing
  • Experience within a Builders Merchant, Estimating, Technical Sales or Construction‑related role
  • Strong computer skills and confidence using technical systems (AutoCAD experience advantageous)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organisational skills and a methodical approach to technical work

Desired

  • Level 4 HNC in Construction or related discipline
  • Experience producing fabrication drawings or using AutoCAD LT
  • Familiarity with structural products such as lintels, steelwork, padstones and windposts

Career Pathway

This position offers a clear progression route into senior technical roles within Wade Building Services, including Senior Estimator, Technical Coordinator, or Technical Manager. As your knowledge deepens, you will take on greater responsibility — producing complex quotations, supporting engineers, managing key accounts and overseeing technical enquiries independently.

Pay: £28,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
