Job description

JGP Property Maintenance Ltd is an established and trusted property maintenance and refurbishment company based in Grimsby. We undertake a wide range of building, repair, maintenance and improvement works across residential and commercial properties.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and highly proficient Multi-Skilled Builder / Joiner to join our team.

The successful applicant must have a strong background in general building and joinery, together with professional plastering and property refurbishment experience. We require someone with a genuinely well-rounded trade skill set who can assess jobs, identify the appropriate solution and complete work independently to a consistently high professional standard.

This is a skilled tradesperson position. It is not suitable for applicants whose experience is limited to basic DIY, general handyman work or assisting qualified tradespeople.

Key responsibilities

• General building, repair and refurbishment work
• First and second-fix joinery
• Fitting and repairing doors, frames, skirting boards and architraves
• Kitchen fitting and associated joinery work
• Constructing and repairing stud walls, ceilings and internal partitions
• Plastering, skimming, patch repairs and making good
• Brickwork, blockwork and general masonry repairs
• Bathroom and kitchen refurbishment work
• Wall and floor tiling
• Flooring installation and repairs
• Painting, decorating and finishing work where required
• Minor plumbing and general maintenance work where competent
• Diagnosing building defects and identifying the correct repair
• Managing jobs independently from initial preparation through to completion
• Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard
• Maintaining clean, tidy and professional working areas
• Communicating professionally with customers, tenants and colleagues
• Managing an allocated workload effectively without close supervision

Essential experience and skills

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

• Substantial professional experience in general building, joinery or property refurbishment
• A high level of competence across more than one skilled trade
• Strong first and second-fix joinery skills
• Professional plastering, skimming, patching and making-good experience
• The ability to complete building, refurbishment and repair work independently
• The experience and judgement to diagnose problems and determine the correct solution
• Excellent workmanship and attention to detail
• The ability to manage a varied workload without close supervision
• A reliable, organised and self-motivated approach
• Good communication skills and a professional manner
• A full UK driving licence

Applicants must be confident undertaking skilled building, joinery and plastering work independently and producing a professional-quality finish.

Previous experience undertaking repairs, maintenance and refurbishment work within social housing, local government, local authority contracts or the private rented sector would be a distinct advantage.

Desirable experience and qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in joinery, carpentry, plastering or another relevant trade
• Valid CSCS card
• Experience working within social housing or delivering maintenance services under local authority or public-sector contracts
• Kitchen and bathroom fitting experience
• Bricklaying and masonry repair experience
• Roofing repair experience
• Wall and floor tiling experience
• Flooring installation experience
• Relevant health and safety training
