Senior Building Control Surveyor
Location: South Tyneside
Rate: Up to £45 per hour Umbrella
Contract: Temporary
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) – part-time will be considered
Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Building Control Surveyor to join a Local Authority Building Control service in South Tyneside on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Building Control professional or Registered Building Inspector with strong experience in Building Regulations compliance, site inspections, and enforcement activity.
The role involves working across a wide range of construction and public protection functions, ensuring compliance with Building Act legislation and supporting safe, compliant development across the borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake plan checking and site inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Carry out inspections across a range of areas including public safety, demolition, dangerous structures, and scaffolding permits.
- Work in line with Registered Building Inspector (RBI) registration requirements and provide supervision where appropriate.
- Support, mentor, and guide colleagues progressing through RBI registration levels.
- Liaise with internal departments and external agencies including Fire Authorities and utility providers.
- Contribute to enforcement activity in line with statutory procedures, including preparing evidence and attending court where required.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all casework and performance data is correctly documented.
- Respond to technical construction enquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation, Building Regulations, and relevant technical standards.
- Participate in emergency out-of-hours callouts for dangerous structures (additional payments applicable).
- Support wider service objectives, including performance management and service improvement initiatives.
- Deputise for senior colleagues as required.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Building Control or related discipline.
- Registered Building Inspector (RBI) status or working towards higher RBI class registration.
- Strong experience in Local Authority Building Control or private sector building control.
- In-depth knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, and associated legislation.
- Experience undertaking site inspections and plan assessments.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
- Enhanced DBS check may be required depending on service requirements.
