Rose Consulting Ltd is a multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy providing Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and direct project delivery services across the UK.

Our projects range from civils and groundworks through to refurbishment, fit-out, commercial and industrial construction and new-build projects. We act as Construction Manager and, where appropriate, Principal Contractor, providing our clients with a practical and commercially focused approach to project delivery.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Working Foreman to join our growing delivery team.

This is very much a working role. We need someone from a strong trade or construction background who is comfortable leading a team while remaining actively involved in the physical works themselves.

• Typical Balance - Approximately 70-80% hands-on, flexing to suit each project
• Team Size - Up to approximately 10-15 people, equally could be 2-3 smaller jobs
• Team Make Up - Rose operatives, agency labour and subcontractors
• Project Coverage - UK-wide, including travel and overnight stays where required

On larger projects, you will work alongside and report to a Site Manager or Contracts Manager. On smaller projects and work packages, there will also be opportunities for the right person to take responsibility for day-to-day site delivery, while maintaining regular contact with the wider Rose project team.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside and directly supervise site operatives, agency labour and subcontractors, leading by example and remaining actively involved in the works.
• Organise and allocate daily activities so labour is used effectively and works are properly sequenced.
• Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, to programme and to the required quality standards.
• Read and work from construction drawings, specifications and site information.
• Undertake basic setting out, measurements and levels where appropriate.
• Identify potential problems or discrepancies before work proceeds and raise them with the Site Manager or Contracts Manager.
• Take a proactive, solutions-focused approach to site issues, identifying practical ways to maintain progress while escalating matters where appropriate.
• Support site health and safety requirements, including toolbox talks, RAMS briefings, inductions and day-to-day monitoring of safe working practices.
• Assist with quality inspections and snagging, ensuring completed works meet drawings, specifications and required standards.
• Maintain appropriate daily site records, including labour, plant, progress, photographs and relevant site information.
• Monitor progress and promptly report delays, additional works, resource requirements or other issues.
• Plan labour, plant and material requirements ahead of the works to maintain programme and productivity.
• Prepare material requirements and provide them to the office/project team in sufficient time for pricing, ordering and delivery.
• Sensibly manage occasional last-minute material requirements where necessary to keep works progressing.
• Coordinate deliveries and assist with the management and safe storage of materials, tools and plant.
• Ensure company tools, plant and equipment are properly used, maintained and securely stored.
• Maintain good housekeeping and presentation across the site.
• Travel to and work on projects throughout the UK, including overnight stays where required.
• Be flexible regarding working hours, including early starts, additional hours and occasional weekend working where reasonably required by project demands.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Proven experience as a Working Foreman, Leading Hand, experienced tradesperson or in a similar supervisory role within the UK construction industry.
• Strong hands-on construction or trade background. Groundworks/civils, brickwork, carpentry, general building or a similar discipline would be advantageous, although other backgrounds will be considered for the right person.
• Ability and willingness to remain actively involved in physical works while supervising others.
• Experience supervising and coordinating operatives, agency labour and/or subcontractors.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
• Good understanding of construction site health and safety requirements and CDM 2015.
• Current SSSTS certification.
• Appropriate CSCS card.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and work away from home when required.
• Good communication, planning and organisational skills.
• A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach to problems.
• Reliability, flexibility and confidence taking responsibility for getting works completed.

Desirable

• First Aid at Work certification - training can be provided where required.
• SMSTS certification.
• Gold or Black CSCS card.
• NVQ Level 3/4 in a construction trade or Site Supervision.
• Temporary Works Supervisor training.
• Experience undertaking basic setting out and levels.
• Experience across civils, groundworks, refurbishment, commercial, industrial or new-build projects.
• Experience using site management, reporting or document control software.

Additional training and certification can be provided by Rose for the right candidate.

The Person

Qualifications and experience are important, but attitude is equally important to us.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, leads by example and is willing to get involved. You should be comfortable taking responsibility, making sensible decisions on site and working with the wider Rose team to find practical solutions when challenges arise.

This isn't a role for someone who wants to stand back and simply supervise others. We want someone who can organise a team, pick up the tools and work alongside them to get the job done properly.
